Vickers VC10 C1K for FS2004
---------------------------

Install
-------
Extract the zip to a temporary folder. You should see two folders 'Aircraft' & 'Effects'.
Copy the contents of the 'Aircraft' folder into your 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Aircraft' folder.
Copy the contents of the 'Effects' folder into your 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Effects' folder.
(assuming you installed FS in the default location)

Note about install: Be sure not to over complicate the install of this addon. The contents of the 'Aircraft' folder are set up exactly as required by FS & should simply be copied in as they are. In particular the folder 'DMFS Shared Files' IS intended to go into your FS9 'Aircraft' folder. If you move any of the files elsewhere the panel, sounds & documentation will not be seen by FS.

The FS2004 flight model gives a highly accurate performance within the normal operating limits of the VC10.
While the model will work in FS2002, the accuracy of the flight model is lost in FS2002.

The panel will make use of the freeware CIVA Delco Carousel INS if you have it correctly installed. The INS is available from www.simufly.com/ins/

Model by David Maltby (e-mail: david@DMflightsim.co.uk)
Latest versions of all my models can be downloaded from www.DMflightsim.co.uk.

This aircraft is Freeware.
It may not be sold for profit or charged for in any way.
You may repaint this model and upload it to any internet site that makes it available free of charge, as long as David Maltby is credited for the original model.
David Maltby always retains full copyright of the 3D model.
Steps have been taken in the model's design to provide evidence should it be decompiled & used as a base for another 3d model.
You are not allowed to decompile the 3D model. Although I give away the final results for free, I do not give away all the design work that went into it.

Very special thanks to:-
Flt Lt Andy Townshend for very kindly arranging access to the real aircraft & simulator at RAF Brize Norton, and also providing much useful material and patiently answering many questions.
Sdn Ldrs (retired) Ollie Alderson & Paul Gausden for their knowledge and flying experience with the VC10.
The staff at Brooklands museum for being so helpful & answering lots of questions.

Panel bitmaps & panel layout designed by Dave Booker
Gauges designed & created by David Maltby
All photography by Dave Booker

This panel is an accurate rendition of the VC10 C1K in Royal Air Force service in 2004.
Much of the original research & photography was done on A40-AB, the Standard VC10 at the Brooklands museum in Weybridge, with updates made from photograps taken onboard the C1Ks XV102 & XV107 at RAF Brize Norton.

Every effort has been made to make it authentic in look and function, while still remaining easy to use in FS.
Fortunately, the real aircraft panel is laid out in a helpful way & transfers very well into a 2D panel for FS.
There is a small degree of variation between aircraft, so some details on this panel will not match all RAF C1Ks exactly. Note that the K2, K3 & K4 series of VC10 tankers all have some differences with the C1K equipment.

The accuracy of the flight model has benefitted enormously through flying set tasks in the full motion C1K simulator at RAF Brize Norton and also flying onboard the real thing in XV102.
See details of flying circuits at Brize Norton in the C1K at the 'DM Flight Sim' website - www.DMflightsim.co.uk

Sound Credits
-------------
The Conway engine sounds have been sampled from the video 'Classic Wings - Vickers VC10'.
Avion Video have very kindly given me permission to include them in this freeware pack.

Engine sounds edited & cfg programmed by David Maltby
All non-engine sounds are linked to suitable Microsoft FS sounds in the Sound.cfg file.

WARNING - THESE AIRCRAFT SOUNDS ARE VERY LOUD
David Maltby accepts no liability for damage to anything.

User Manual
-----------
All documentation is held in the folder 'Aircarft\DMFS Shared Files\Vickers VC10 C1K Documentation'.
This documentation is also set up so it can be read using the kneeboard feature in FS2004 and is also available on-line at the website www.DMflightsim.co.uk.

Texture Conversion Utility for DM Flight Sim models
---------------------------------------------------

This utility will only work on the DM Flight Sim series of models - BAC 1-11, DH106 Comet, Vickers VC10, HS121 Trident.

These days my models mainly use 32-bit textures. This texture format offers the best image quality on higer spec PC's, but they can be quite demanding on the resources of some systems.
If your system doesn't handle the 32-bit textures well, this simple batch converter can automatically convert the model's textures into the more efficient DXT3 format.

This Texture Converter uses the batch processing capability of the standard 'Imagetool' texture conversion program that Microsoft supply for FS.

To install the texture conversion utility, copy the two files 'imagetool.exe' and 'Texture Converter.bat' into the aircraft's folder.

To convert the textures, run (double click) the file 'Texture Converter.bat'.
Read the information displayed in the window & Select the option required.
