Description: Southern Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, California. Southeast of Yosemite, includes Inyo National Forest, Kings's Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park and Sequoia National Forest.

Resolution:

1 arc sec (approximately 30 meter) source data, converted to 38.2 meter horizontal
spacing (LOD 10) using the Microsoft SDK

----------------------------------------------------------------
Installation:

Extract the zipped files to a temporary directory, then either:

copy the .bgl file(s) to your FS2002\ADDON SCENERY\Scenery folder
(data in this folder is used automatically)

or,

create a separate folder under FS2002\scenery
for example - FS2002\scenery\fs-traveler\scenery

copy the .bgl file(s) to this new folder

add the new mesh to the sim, using the FS2002 menus
select World|Scenery Libraries ...|Add ...
browse to the new folder, for example FS2002\scenery\fs-traveler
select/highlight this folder
click to activate your new terrain mesh

----------------------------------------------------------------
Basic production process:

Up to 6 NED files are converted/merged using Microdem to provide a one-degree DEM file

This DEM file is then processed with proprietary software to:
repair problems in source data (missing data points, ...)
convert to BSQ format
create inf file
create/execute batch file, using SDK s/w to create the final bgl

The .bgl mesh files are named using the coordinates of the southeast corner of the area.
Coverage extends slightly beyond the one-degree boundaries to insure overlap with
adjacent mesh files. Irregular areas are covered using multiple files designated
LonLat-1.bgl, LonLat-2.bgl, ...

----------------------------------------------------------------
Source Data:

USGS National Elevation Dataset (1 arc sec, approx. 30 meters) - described as "developed
by merging the highest-resolution, best-quality elevation data available across the
United States into a seamless raster format. NED is the result of the maturation of the
USGS effort to provide 1:24,000-scale Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data for the
conterminous US..." (http://edcnts14.cr.usgs.gov/Website/seamless.htm)

----------------------------------------------------------------
Tools used to convert USGS NED data to the FS2002 terrain mesh format:

Microsoft Terrain SDK (http://www.microsoft.com/games/fs2000/devdesk_sdk_fs2000.asp)
Microdem (http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/website/microdem.htm)

Microdem DEM files to the BSQ format required for the Microsoft FS2000 SDK.
