Ipswich (EGSE) VFR Scenery for FS2004
=====================================

I wondered why Ipswich wasn't included in FS2004 and when I checked I found that a closure order was enforced on it in 1996 by the local Council. I only ever flew into Ipswich three times but one of those was on my PPL Qualifying Cross Country a while ago (OK, many years ago if you must know).

This still left a bit of a gap in my sim, so one Sunday I dug out an old (ahem....very old) copy of Pooley's, Googled as many old pics as I could find, fired up SceneGenX and came up in less than a day with this scenery. Add another few hours for finishing touches and there you have it.

So this isn't photoreal scenery by any stretch of the imagination - it uses only default objects and stock textures - but I think it's close enough to the real thing. Anyway, it's in bang on the right place and it has two great grass runways, and I reckon anyone who knew the place for real will recognise the Pitts Bar and Restaurant (even though there's no sign), the squash courts, the main air-side entrance and a few other bits and pieces.

Anyway, it'll do until someone comes up with something better, which I'm sure they will.

Don't complain to me if the details aren't quite right! I've included my SceneGenX file in the package so if you're not happy, change it yourself!

Ipswich Tower is on 123.25 and another thing. You'll notice that there are no taxiway and runway edge lines - just the runway designations and centre lines. That's because that's how it was. But don't worry. Unlike the real field, I've included lots of taxiway signs so as long as you taxi between the rows of signs you will be on a taxiway (I've had to call them A, B and C for FS purposes) and the signs will direct you exactly to where you need to go. Come on - you are supposed to be a real pilot after all!

Any AI traffic you put in will show you exactly where to taxi - but the airport diagram (EGSE_Layout.jpg) included in the package should show you all you need to know about where the taxiways are.

There are no lights and no navaids - that's how it was in my day (don't know about the latter years). That's why I've called it VFR scenery. People like you and me sleep when it gets dark and fly when it's light (OK, gross over-simplification but you get the picture...).

Installation
========

You're reading this so you've already unzipped the package. Extract (don't just drag) the contents of the zip file to a folder as you usually do and you will then see a total of three sub-folders, a few piccies (but don't forget to check out EGSE-Layout.jpg) and the file you're now reading.

To install the scenery, just paste the Ipswich sub-folder and its contents into the FS2004 ADDON-SCENERY folder and activate it through the scenery library. If you don't know how to do that by now, weeelllllll..........

There's no need to worry about an AFCAD file or anything like that because it's already built into the scenery.

TO DE-INSTALL, JUST REVERSE THE ABOVE PROCESS, MAKING SURE YOU DEACTIVATE THE SCENERY THROUGH THE SCENERY LIBRARY FIRST TO AVOID SCENERY ERRORS.

Other Files
========

If you look in the TTools sub-folder, you'll find a file TTools.txt. This contains some helpful advice (don't mention it, you're welcome) on how to get AI traffic using your new airport.

Lastly there's a SceneGenX sub-folder. This contains my original scenery file. If you are a SceneGenX user, you'll be able to open the scenery up and play with it yourself. Have fun. If you make it really nice and upload it, just mention my name will you?

That's it.

Legal Stuff
========

This package and all the material it contains is in the public domain. Anyone can do whatever they want with it APART FROM USE IT TO MAKE MONEY. But most of all, have fun with it.
