Flight Simulator 1954 - A Half Century of Flight Splash Screens & Template for FS2002 or FS9

A collection of sixteen splash screens with the legend "Flight Simulator 1954 - A Half Century of Flight" and featuring appropriate civil and military aircraft of the early fifties. Inclused a template you can use to make your own screens. For use with either of the available Splash Screen randomizer programs or as single screens.

Installation:

If you've got a randomizer installed, just dump all the screenies (except the template) into the appropriate folder.

If you don't have a randomizer and just want to use one screen, rename it dlgsplash (or dlgsplash.bmp if you have your folders set to show known file extensions) and drop it into the Uires folder in your main FS9 folder. (Do remember to back up your original first!)

To make your own splash screens:

Set your screen resolution to 800x600, go to full screen view, and take a nice screen shot. (Print Screen key, open MS Paint, and from the Edit menu Paste the screenie into Paint.) Do not touch the navigation bars!

Open the template in a second Paint session.

In both Paint sessions, click on the eyedropper tool and then right click on the blue area of the template to pick up the blue as the background color.

Click the dotted rectangle tool above the paint bucket. Below the double row of tools in the toolbox, click on the lower of the two big buttons. This sets Paint to ignore the background color.

Click the rectangle on the left side, second up from the bottom in the tool box. In the window that replaces the two big buttons, click the bottom rectangle.

With the right mouse button held down, use your mouse to draw a blue rectangle to obliterate the text in the template. Do this all in one motion so you can undo it later with a single click.

On the Edit menu Select All, then on the Edit menu (or the right click menu) Copy.

Go to the Paint session where your screenie is. In the same way you did before, set this session to ignore the background color. From the Edit (or right click) menu Paste the gold frame on top of your screenie. Click any tool button to make it permanently part of the image.

Go back to the template and on the Edit menu click Undo to get your text back. Click the paint bucket tool, then right click on the gold frame so it disappears. On the Edit menu Select All, then on the Edit menu (or right click menu) Copy.

On the edit menu click Undo, close the template and Do Not save the changes.

Go back to your screenie and from the Edit (or right click) menu, Paste the text into your screenie. Because you did it separately from the frame, you can move the text around and pit it where you want in the image. When you have it placed where you want it, click any tool to secure it in place.

Close your screenie and Save the changes.
