FS98 DC-8-51 Delta Air Lines (old colors)

FREEWARE: Any imported textures, files or components were used with permission.

This will probably work in FS2K also, it just won't have the 'extreme' night lighting.

THE HIGH POINTS:

AF99 circle, 12-sided fuselage and engines.
Moving undercarriage and gear door sequence.
Shining landing lights.
Night lighted cabin windows.
Great flight dynamic - Flies rock solid 'like a DC-8' (No sudden moves... plan ahead).

THE EVOLUTION:

The DC-8 has always been one of my favorite planes. I had some correspondence with Dee Waldron
regarding any further DC-8 series for FS98 from the DC-8 Project Team. He said no, there would
not be anymore for FS98, but, they had an old one that was unfinished when they switched over
to FS2K. It was a '50' series and he said he would see how much work it needed to make it usable.

To make a long story short, a couple of days later, I received a blank copy, ready to paint. Dee
remarked that he hoped I would paint it and upload it to one or more popular web sites so that the
flightsim community could enjoy it and do more repaints.

Well, here it is, in Delta's old colors.

I did the red, white and blue stuff and the window detailing. I tweaked the engine textures a little,
only to satisfy the mental image I had of Pratt-Whitney's JT3 Turbofan.

CREDITS: (Many thanks to the following authors)

Window Detailing: Bob Merry

How many different ways can you detail a window ?? From what I have seen in the
flightsim community, there must be a zillion. I guess mine is just a compilation
of techniques I have seen all over, but there's only so many pixels to a window,
so I did what I could to give them a little more 3D appearance, and give the plane
a little more visual impact. The green tint is a lighting color, so the cabin
lights will show up as a soft green at night. (I know, airliner windows aren't
tinted, but this looked pretty good to me, so I left it in.)

Read the Historic Jetliners Group's text file for good info on how to handle the DC-8.

This aircraft is a result of the kindness and cooperation of the 'Freeware' community. Common courtesy
is the key. If you want to use the paint textures for any other plane, you have my permission to do so,
but only if it remains freeware. If you see anything else you'd like to use, ask permission from the list
of authors above. They are a nice group of people, and will generally grant it if you ask. If you use
without asking, you will be one more reason for them to quit making all these neat things for free.

All this stuff works great on my PII 300 Gateway. It's free, use it at your own risk, and if you think it
has caused a problem on your computer, call Microsoft.

Enjoy, I hope you like it. Any comments, good or bad, can find me at: RBMerry@aol.com
