For FS2002 only. The Cannibal Queen and Golden Wings Curtiss Jenny updated to operate in fs2002. Although created in AF99 and are not state of the art these planes still are fun to fly in fs2002!!
Installation! Before you do anything you might want to increase the pan rate in fs2002. The default rate in my opinion is much too slow. You can do this by opening the fs2002.cfg and finding the line that reads PAN_RATE=400. Increase it to 900 and save the file. Now unzip the InstallBP.zip file into your main fs2002 directory and everything should go to the proper folders. Thats it!
To fly the Stearman (WHICH DOES NOT HAVE A 2D PANEL OR NAV RADIO!!!) select the flight "Boulder to St. Francis". The Cannibal Queen will be on the tarmac ready to start the first leg of the adventure. It is 1:35pm,June 10, 1991 and the goal is to fly from Boulder Colorado to St.Francis Kansas where a Stearman fly-in is in progress. After starting the CQ taxi out, take off and head East to cross eastern Colorado on your way to St Francis, Kansas. Use the map view to check your progress. It's about a two hour flight. The St. Francis airport designator is KSYF. THERE IS NO 2D PANEL as this VFR aircraft uses the operating virtual instruments in the virtual cockpit mode. Use the hat button on your control stick to pan around the cockpit. Smoke trails have been added at "i" in case you want to do a little stunt flying..:o)) This plane was owned and flown by author Stephen Coonts and was immortalized in his book "The Cannibal Queen, An Aerial Odyssey Across America" by Pocket Books, Copyrighted . I would advise you to seek out a copy of this book as it is great reading for anyone who loves airplanes that have propellers on them!! I have seen it at book sales for just a few dollars and many libraries also have it. Included with this aircraft are two small maps that chart the two parts of his trip. His accomplished goal was to navigate around the US using only a wet compass and pilotage and to land in each of the lower 48 states. This sim allows you to follow along on that adventure and now, with the great new fs2002 scenery available, to see the USA in a whole new way!! I have used a road atlas, compass and the map view in fs2002 to fly some of the legs of the trip and it's quite a beautiful and exciting virtual challenge!
To fly the Jenny select the Jenny Test Flight. This will place you at Ace's farm in Missouri. Start up the Jenny and take the passenger for a trip around this scenic area. If you are daring try flying through the barn!! Add a little smoke using the "i" key to track your progress!! Have fun..:o)))
I wish to thank Louis Sinclair for FSDS, to Konstantin Kukushkin for AA, to Mike Crosthwaite for SDL Edit, to Terry Dutton for the encouragement, to Jim Nichols for the Stearman sounds, to the MS Team who developed Fs2002 and anyone else who I may have ommitted. Most thanks go to the members of the Golden Eagles Squadron who are great bunch of flightsim artists who have joined together to help each other keep the tradition of low key fun freeware alive in Fs2002.. Emphasis is on classic and vintage aircraft. This package is one of many you will be seeing in the coming months as we explore the wonderful new world of fs2002 that Microsoft has provided us. Please do not use our work in any commercial product. Other than that restriction our work can be freely distributed as an intact package. Please visit our site at http://home.earthlink.net/%7Epgrubich/goldeneagles.htm and let us know what you think of our flightsim offerings, make suggestions or check out future plans..
Good flying, Bill Lyons, Member of The Golden Eagles squadron, 2002 gwings@netexpress.net
