HISTORY:

The Denel Cheetah D is a South African upgrade of the Mirage III. The
Cheetah resembles the Israeli IAI Kfir and most probably required IAI
assistance. The 'D' is the two-seater, used for training and Electronic
Warfare (EW) platforms; the 'E' resembled the Kfir C2/7 almost exactly
and was used mainly as a ground attack/secondary fighter. The Cheetah E
was retired in the early 1990's. The Cheetah 'C' is the most advanced
of the family, utilising new avionics; an Israeli multi-mode, pulse
doppler radar; an extensive EW suite and a frameless windscreen. In
November 1997, No.1 Squadron retired all the Mirage F1AZs, leaving the
Cheetah C's with both the air defense AND ground attack roles. Early in
1999, however, the SAAF announced the order of 28 SAAB Gripens in order
supplement/replace the Cheetah C's.

TFDC Mission Statement - TFDC ensures the integrity of combat ready
aircraft and associated systems for the SA Air Force and other aeronautical
organisations by applying total quality Flight Test Management.
