Ice Textures for Inland Water of FS2002 by Fred Choate

First of all, I want to say that none of the textures used in this archive are created by me.......they are default textures, that I modified slightly in color.

Okay, next I want to explain a bit about what is going to happen when you install these textures:

All the inland water in FS2002 world wide, will change to the Ice Texture. This DOES affect it's properties as water, and you can still land float planes on it as usual, however, it will create the visual that the water is frozen. In order for you to land ski or wheeled planes on the ice, you will need to be able to modify the contact points within the aircraft.cfg to become "floats" rather than "wheels". I am not going to attempt to explain how to do this, as my ability to do so may create more problems than good. That is something you will need to figure out. You will be able to download the Montana Air DHC2 Beaver from the Montana Air website address listed below, and I will have the ski plane configured in that file to allow it to work on this ice.

These textures are not seasonal, and once installed, will show the ice all year, in all seasons. So, you will only want to use these textures when you are flying in the winter, and in the northern parts of the world.

I have included two sets of textures in this archive. One set is the original textures, and the other are the modified ones. This way, you won't have to go looking for any files to back up, as they are buried pretty good in the sim.

INSTALL:

To install these textures, you will need to extract the files of this archive into a directory of your choice (preferably the FS2002 main folder), and it will create a folder with two sub-folders:

FS2k2 Ice File
FS2k2 Backup Textures
FS2k2 Ice Textures

Once this is done, you need to go to that folder and you will see that in the FS2k2 Backup Textures folder there are two bitmaps and a text file. These will be the original water textures you will copy and paste to restore your water.

In the FS2k2 Ice Textures folder, you will see two bitmaps and a text file as well. These are the textures that you will copy and paste to create the ice.

Now, to create the ice, COPY the two bitmaps from the FS2k2 Ice Textures folder, and PASTE them into the FS2002/Scenedb/World/Texture folder, and overwrite the existing files.

Once this is done, you will have ice on all your inland water, but it will not affect the oceans.

To restore, go to the FS2k2 Backup Textures, and COPY and PASTE those bitmaps into the FS2002/Scenedb/world/texture folder, and overwrite the files.

I upload this as freeware, and not to be included on anything that will produce commercial gain. I have tested these files on my computer and no harm was done, but I take no responsibility to anything that should happen to your system upon trying to install these.
