FS2002 White Ice for Lakes and Rivers

These files produce a whiter Ice and "freeze" the Rivers too. Includes a "copy/paste" Effects Section for wheel/ Ski planes to produce a "blowing snow" look and allow for river take-off/landings without the "dirt" showing. Includes Fred Choates Original "FS2k2Ice" textures so that you may choose Blue or White Ice. By Larry Smith and Fred Choates 2002.

NOTES AND EFFECTS COPY/PASTE

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION
============

- Unzip to a temp folder, then place the Folder "Ice" into the ...FS2002\SceneDB\World\Textures folder.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO USE
==========

- WITH DEFAULT WATER TEXTURES
=============================

a) *** IMPORTANT!! *** OPEN the FS2002/SCENEDB/WORLD/TEXTURE FOLDER and FIND AND ** COPY ** the 3 textures;

*** 002b2wa1.bmp ***
*** 003b2wa1.bmp ***
*** riversu.bmp ***

b) Open the "Ice" folder and PASTE those textures into the (Ice) BACKUP Folder BEFORE DOING THE NEXT STEP.
c) To make Ice choose the colour you want to use, open it's folder and COPY / PASTE - the textures into
...FS2002\SceneDB\World\Textures folder - overwrite.

d) To restore water, just COPY / PASTE the Backup Textures back into FS2002/SCENEDB/WORLD/TEXTURE - overwrite.

- WITH NEW WATER (oceansfx.zip & oceanstx.zip)
=============================================

a) *** IMPORTANT!! *** OPEN the SCENEDB/WORLD/TEXTURE FOLDER and ** COPY ** the texture;

*** riversu.bmp ***

b) PASTE it into your (Ice) Backup folder.
c) To make Ice, choose the colour you want to use, open it's folder and COPY / PASTE - the textures (bmp) into
...FS2002\SceneDB\World\Textures folder - overwrite.

d) To restore water, just COPY / PASTE the Backup Texture "riversu.bmp" back into FS2002/SCENEDB/WORLD/TEXTURE - overwrite.
The other 2 textures are restored when you choose the New Water you want to use and install them - Their installation uses the same method of COPY/PASTE so the remaining Ice textures are replaced.

NOTES
=====

It may appear that the Water isn't changing back and forth between the water and Ice textures - Close and restart FS2002 to ensure the textures get reloaded.

I'll repeat here what Fred Choates said in his FS2k2Ice.zip - these textures only COLOUR THE WATER! YOU MUST CHANGE THE "CONTACT POINTS" IN THE AIRCRAFT CFG TO ENABLE IT TO "FLOAT" ON THIS SURFACE. See sample below - this is ONLY A SAMPLE and MAY NOT WORK as "copy/paste" with your wheel/ski aircraft.

Point.XX=
0 Class 1-Wheel, 2-Scrape, 3-Skid, 4-Float, 5-Water Rudder

Of note is the ADDITION of points 3, 4, and 5 - FLOAT (Class 4).

Effects Copy/Paste
------------------
Copy/Paste this Effects section into your (Wheel/Ski) Aircraft.cfg file over the current section OR add "//" in front of EACH part of your current Effects, including the title [Effects], then paste this section below the first. If you don't like the "New" effects - just delete the section you added and remove the "//"s. Save your changes BEFORE closing the CFG file.

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_smoke_w
water=fx_smoke_w
dirt=fx_tchdwn_s
concrete=fx_tchdwn_s,1
touchdown=fx_tchdwn_s, 1

What these Effects will produce:

wake= when the "wheel/skis" touch the water, they will leave snow tracks.
water= when the "wheel/skis" touch the water,they will produce "blowing snow".
dirt= when the "wheel/skis" touch dirt (runway or rivers) they produce "puffs of snow".
concrete and touchdown= normal effects for these.

If the river you are manoeuvring on is "coded" as water you will get the "blowing snow" effect, if it is "dirt" you will get only the small "puff of snow". This is true of the dirt runways also but in the winter the dirt is to hard to produce a dust of dirt but they will some snow on them.
