BAC.221

by Kazunori Ito

*******************************************************************************

This aircraft was used for the performance testing of the Concorde.
Up and down mechanism of nose parts (Drooping Nose) similar to the Concorde was installed.
And, This is an airframe that remodeled a Fairey Delta F.D.2 used for the supersonic record test.

--------------------------------------------------

The first flight finally took place on May 1, 1964, with Godfrey Auty with the orders of the plane to half painted and accompanied by Hunter.
The plane was equipped with a careenage with a camera to film flows of air on the right wing.
Before BAC221 did not fly, the SST of Hawker Siddeley had been abandoned and various studies of Bristol-board SST had been included in the Franco-Britannique project Agrees.
Some of the Bristol/BAC projects comprised ogival delta wings (like Bristol-board 198 to six engines and Bristol-board 223) but the British engineers preferred the traditional delta wings and the studied ogival wings were very different in detail with that adopted for the Harmony.
BAC221 was too late to be useful for the Concorde program, and its wing, although of form similar to that of the Harmony, did not have the same camber and a ratio different of epaisseur/corde.
For these reasons, it behaved very differently, particularly at the high speeds.
Nevertheless, after the tests manufacturer by Auty, Williamson and a pilot of Bedford, the plane was delivered to the RAE with Thurleigh close to Bedford on May 20, 1966.
It thus joined the HP.115, which was used for research on the thin delta wings at low speed.
Before the plane did not arrive at Bedford it had gained an extension of aileron of 20 centimetres, an anti-spin parachute, and the mechanism of tilting nose had been modified to allow greater angles of abatement.
The plane was in fact used mainly for research of procedure of approach and landing of Harmony, and was particularly useful to develop the system of autothrottle of the Harmony.
Turbojet RA.28R (an engine of Valiant with post-combustion) had 4600 dry kgp and 6350 kgp with the PC, compared with the 4300 and 6580 kgp of Avon RA.14R of the initial FD.2.
The plane had been modified very little when it was withdrawn with the Museum of Flight in East Fortune in 1973.
Later on, the plane was transferred to Fleet Air ARM Museum in Yeovilton, forming part of an exposure devoted to the Harmony.

[ About the installation ]

The airframe must copy the \BAC221 folder as it is in the Aircraft folder of FS2002 or FS2004.

\FS2002(FS2004)
-----\Aircraft
---------\BAC221

Please copy all files in the \gauges folder onto the gauge in the Gauges folder of FS2002 or FS2004.
A general gauge is saved for the gauge bundled this time.
The Gauges of Concorde, Kingair, GPS are not bundled.
Please introduce it by yourself.

[ About the operations ]

Shift+"E" = Canopy Open/Shut
"/" = Air Brake Open/Shut
................................
!! A special key operation !!
................................

Concorde Nose Key = Drooping Nose Down/Up

This key is an arbitrary key that you are setting as key for Concorde Nose operation.

[ About free software ]

All aircraft that I made are free software.
The reprint and the repaint may go freely.
However, please defend the following conditions.

1.The change in contents of this file is prohibited.
(Please distribute it like the Zip file of the current state when distributing it. )
2.Please neither reverse-assembly nor never remodel(convert) it of the aircraft model.
3.Please don't bundle my airframe(MDL file) in the package of your works when you open the repaint to the public.
(Please open only the texture to the public. )
4.Don't use DXT format for making texture.
Please make it by the format that everyone can change.
It is necessary to be able to read and change with usual drawing software.
5.It is prohibited to bundle and to open a new panel to the public to my aircraft model.
(Please open only the panel to the public.
It is included in this file, and remodeling the panel that uses the panel background and the change in the panel background are prohibited. )
6.I maintain the copyright of the aircraft model and the panel background.
7.The copyright of the gauge belongs to the author.

[ About the directions point in FS2004 ]

This aircraft model is made by using FSDS Ver2.24.
Therefore, it is possible to play basically in FS2004(FS9).
However........!!
For a wide large-scale aircraft, the distortion is caused and the phenomenon of the aerofoil tip's disappearing happens in the spot shooting mode.
If this phenomenon happens, Please switch to the spot shooting mode by using other small aircraft.
Afterwards, if this aircraft is selected, it is normally displayed.
