Airbus A300 B2 and B4 Flight models
************************************

June 12th, 2000.

Here is my version 2.1 of flight dynamics models for an Airbus A300-B2
and an Airbus A30-B4 for FS2000.
They have been designed from Air Inter real specifications.
For use with any A300 aircraft of your choice.

Improvements: more accurate ( exact ! ) reference speeds, amd improved
pitching stability.

Version. 2.

Installation:
--------------
include (after making a back up of the previous files) one of the .air (B2 or B4) and the .cfg
files in any A300 aircraft, at the level of the previous .air and .cfg files.
The .cfg file contains additional parameters, combined with the .air
to which I have added the sections under [jet_engine], generated via FS2000 utilities.

Panel: I do recommend the very nice panel by Benoit Gaurant, available at SurClaro

Aircraft: choose the one you prefer. No constraints a priori. Use
the B2 model with an aircraft, and the B4 with another aircraft.

Special thanks to A300 Flight Captain Guy VERGER, from Air Inter, who
sent me numerous docs and figures, without which I wouldn't have been able
to design this model. Thanks also for his evaluations.
Thanks also to Benoit Gaurant for his very helpful remarks.

Below are some figures, those of the flight model and those of Air Inter real
aircrafts between parenthesis, for comparison.
The main difference lies in the fuel flow, and consequently the range, since
the fuel flow cannot be managed in FS2000 models.
Stability is approximately the correct one, same for banking and the slight
delay for the commands to obey.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This model has been designed using the key-board and
not a joy-stick. For a joystick, if the aircraftcommands respond too quickly
or in an exagerate manner, you can increase the parameters roll_stability
and yaw_stability in the aircraft.cfg to 1.000 or even more.

Some figures:
--------------

fuel:
B2: 34 tons, = 10140 Gals . B4: 45 tons = 13400 Gals. (Same for Air Inter)
Range: about B2: 1400 NM, B4: 1900 NM economy speed.
(Air Inter: about 2500 NM and 3200 NM)
Stall clean: 140 kts.
The model is based on an aircraft of a total weight of 137 tons (B2 version).

Take off
-------------

Taxi on ground at less than 25 kts: 0.400 tons of fuel. (same as Air Inter)
Take-off till 1500 feet: fuel 0.400 tons (Air Inter: 0.600 t)

Take off occurs at 153 kts, flaps 10 degrees,
climb rate: +1800 feet/mn

fuel burned: about 3 tons.

Speeds (identical to Air Inter): V1= 143 to 148 kts, Vr = 149, V2 = 153, V3 = 148
V4 = 193, Vfto = 221 kts.

Air inter take off procedure:

- Initial climb at 160 kts, gear retraction, max angle: 20 and then 12.5 degrees.
- At 1500 feet: flap retraction, Speed > V3, Vz = +1000 feet/mn (anti noise)
- Then, end of anti-noise area, speed to V4, slat retraction,
- finally climb IAS at about 225 kts, +1800 feet/mn, and then at 250 kts below FL100,
300 kts above (increase step by step), reduce slightly to 290 kts after FL220.

cruise
-----------
At FL270, 94.8 (95) %N1, Mach 0.754 (0.75), about 303 IAS , TAS 450,
(IAS 312 kts in FS2000 since airspeed is treated by a linear equation,
which isn't exact), fuel flow: FS2000: 18 300 lbs/h for B2 (7.8 tons/hour), 18800 lbs/h for B4,
Air Inter: long range trip: 11 500 lbs/h, short range trip: 12 400 lbs/h

Aditional figures:

Cruise at FL310:
for a weight of 140 tons: 97.7 % N1, TAS: 458, 0.77 Mach, IAS: 298.

Cruise at FL240:
for a weight of 135 tons: 92.7% N1, TAS: 431, IAS: 311, Mach 0.714.

descent:
---------
descent at about -1800 feet/mn at 300 kts above FL100.
Fuel: 1.6 ton (500 Gals).

Speeds (same as Air Inter):
Initial approach: 212 kts,
Manoeuvre speed: 190 kts
Slats 20, flaps: 0 = 191 kts, 41 % N1, descent rate about -1200 f/mn.
Slats 20, flaps 15, gear down: 161 kts, 75 % N1
Slats and Flaps fully extented + gear down: min. 144 kts, 70 % N1,
incidence angle about 8 degrees.

Landing speed (with less than 500 Gals of fuel) : about 144 kts.

Side wind for landing up to 40 kts. (Air Inter: 30 kts, incl. on a wet
runway, 15 kts when there is snow on the rwy).

THANKS
=======

As mentioned above, warmest thanks to A300 flight captain Guy VERGER,
and to Benoit GAURANT.
