FS98 Panel for the McDonnel Douglas Dc8 series 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You have to have Microsoft Patch 1 for MS98 installed (can be downloaded at Microsofts homepage or at SurClaro and many oyher sites). Otherwise the autopilot will not work properly.

Resolution: Works best in 1024x768, but works fine also in 800x600

The intention behind making this panel was to create a analog Dc8 panel as accurate as possible without beeing a frameratekiller.
As I worked on with the analog Dc8 I soon figured out that there were alot of different cockpitconfigurations in the Dc8.
I had to do some compromises though because four-engined cockpits have alot of gauges. And making panels in 2D what a pilot can see in 3D must bring up some compromises.
However I think the panel best reflects the mid '70 Dc8, but I think you very well can use the panel on all the old "clockwork" Dc8.
Maybe you will say that the center windowstruts are angled the wrong way and not in the angle they should be seen from a captains perspective, but the reason for this is simple: When angled the opposite way they will block the view towards runway on short final with crosswinds in from left. A compromise.............
And as you will see there is autothrottle function in my panel. The real ones don't have that function, but I didn't find a way to let this function out. Maybe in next version...
And there is a ground spoiler. Dc8 does not have speedbrakes as modern aircrafts have. Dc8 reduces speed in flight with good flightplanning on approach, use of flaps and some models even used two of the engines to slow down the speed with.
OMRDc8 is also equipped with airconditiong. The oldest one did not have that equipment (I spoke with a retired Dc8 captain and he said the oldest Dc8 was very warm to operate in tropical clima)

CREDITS

Many people have helped me in this project:

Tony De Blasio for letting me use his superb enginegauges, HSI and the RMI.
Eric Ernst for many of the primary flightinstruments.
Christian Koegler (the gauge-master) for doing the "reverser unlocked"-gauges.
Andreas Jaros, my mentor, the second gauge-master and betatester.
Ernie Kennedy for the great autopilot.
Konstantin Prokopiu for giving the FS-world sound-gauges (your work Kosta is a great step forward for all of us, thanks!)
Matt Frischmann and Jason Long for giving me (and letting me use) ideas about how to do the windows.
Chuck Dome for his absolutely great and important paneltools.

And if I have forgotten to mention anyone, pls. forgive me.

Without this people, especially the gauge-designers we would not have had the possabilities to improve our work.

Further thanks:

Chris Grall (PF)- betatester
Bob Klemm (PF) - betatester
Peter Ekqvist - betatester
Lars C. Hoff - betatester
Richard Blindheim - betatester
Andreas Jaros - betatester

And finally to Micro$oft for giving (well, it's not quite free actually) us FS98. It's a great product.

Installation:

This panel requires the free Microsoft Converter for FS98.

1) Unzip all files to a temp folder.

2) Unzip the gauges.zip file into your FS98 gauges directory.

3) Put all the wav-files (soundfiles) into your FS98/Sound directory

4) In FS98 aircrafts' subdirectory FSFCONV, make a folder called
panel.OMRDc8 where OMRDc8 is the panel identifier. Put the bmp and cfg-files in here.
Then edit the panel.cfg-file of your preferred aircraft (don't edit the cfg-file in the panel package) and write; alias=FSFSConv\panel.OMRDc8.

5) Or you can simply put the .bmp files and panel.cfg right into the panelfolder
of your preferred aircraft.

6) Start up FS and fly a Dc8.

The panel is testet on 3DFX-cards and worked fine. But no guarantees are given.
