Verkehrslandeplatz Mengen-Hohentengen Scenery for FS 2000
March 2001
Version 1.01 june 2001

1.Mengen- Hohentengen (EDTM) is a regional airfield close to
Sigmaringen (Baden-Württemberg ). Originally built for
"Reichsluftwaffe" at the end of WW II (testing base for
Dornier Do 335 "Ameisenbär" ), after WW II it served for
French Airforce until mid sixties. The adjacent baracks in
the very south (not part of the scenery) were today used
by a basic training bataillon of German Airforce.

The airfield is admitted for aircraft up to 5700 kg (14 000 PPR ),
Helicopters up to 6000 kg as well as gliders and ULs.

Runway mag directions are 078 and 258, dimensions are 1601 x 30 m
with concrete surface. Field elevation is 1820 ft. At field they have
a NDB navaid ( MEG, freq. 401). The field is at operations from
09.00h to SS + 30. Tower info freq is 122.375.

2.This scenery is an attempt to realize a minor and typical regional
airfield. No airliners and other "big ships", no crowds of busy
passengers, the air traffic mostly results from the flight training
schools, 1 or 2 small charter and business flight companies at field.
Two regional flight clubs are going to bring life to the airfield
especially on weekends. I hope, that the scenery can give you an
impression of the familiary and comfortable atmosphere.
Nevertheless the airfield has sufficient facilities to organize
german glider championchips some years ago.

The scenery itself represents the state of february 2001. It consists
of the buildings and other objects you could find there at this time.
To make it as realistic as possible, I used quite a lot of pictures I
took as well as official basics and aerodrome charts. Thanks to
Flugplatz Mengen - Hohentengen Tower for support and the very
helpful informations.

3.The scenery was designed using the following freeware programs:

- Airport v. 2.60 by Pascal Meziat and Manfred Moldenhauer
- VOD v. 3.0 by Rafael Garcia Sanchez
- BMP 2000 v. 4.00.19 by Martin Wright
- mdl 98 to BGL v. 3.51 by Trevor de Stigter

Thanks to all these authors for developing and distributing these
excellent tools and great compliments for their skill - outstanding !

Very helpful to me on creating night and seasonal effects was the
informative "Scenery Design Whiteaper for FS2k and Airport 2.10 " by
Martin Wright, Ralf J. Triebel and Andreas Klisch.

Because of the strictly freeware limitations on the upper mentioned tools
I used, this scenery has to remain freeware too.

4.Installation:

Create a new folder (named e.g. mengen) and subfolders scenery and texture.
The folder can also be placed outside your FS 2000 folder. Unzip the contents
of this file to those folders ( all bgl. files to scenery subfolder,
bmp. r8. oav. (X) af.files to texture subfolder ).

To activate scenery you can:

a)Follow your FS 2000 help manual (scenery library). After you have done
the steps, open your FS 2000 scenery. cfg and add the flatten statement:

Flatten.0=1819,N48 03.7,E9 21.90,N48 03.7,E9 22.80,N48 02.9,E9 22.80,
N48 02.9,E9 21.90

b)If you don't want to follow the FS 2000 manual, you can also copy
the following supplement to the end of your FS 2000 scenery. cfg.

[Area.???]
Title=Mengen -Hohentengen
Local=???\scenery\Mengen\Scenery

Flatten.0=1819,N48 03.7,E9 21.90,N48 03.7,E9 22.80,N48 02.9,E9 22.80,
N48 02.9,E9 21.90

Remarks:

Line1 ( Area ) replace ??? by your number in sequence
Line3 (Local ) replace ??? by your scenery path
Line5 ( Layer )replace ??? by same number as for Area

5. Scenery worked with FS 2000 on my Athlon 600 and nvidiaGeforce MX graphics
adapter in 1024 x 768 x16 resolution without problems ( 10 -13 fps ).

Hope you will like it !
