FS2002 Scenery ....Kapiti Island Version 1.0 , New Zealand developed by Greg Bishop and modified by Savern Reweti

Firstly let me say that I did not develop this excellent mesh scenery. It was done by Greg Bishop for FS2000. All I have done is modify it so that it will work better in Fs2002. Greg had placed some nice sea textures around the island (which worked fine in fs2000 ) but these clashed with the myriad of third-party sea textures that are available for fs2002. Therefore I had to make his sea textures transparent. Also I reduced the size of his textures from 5 MB to 900 K with minimal loss in quality and this has helped the frame rate quite a bit .
Kapiti Island is about 5 Km off the coast of the North Island almost directly opposite the Paraparaumu Township , Airfield & Golf course ( where Tiger Woods played for the first time in NZ in Jan 2002 ). Its always been a distinctive landmark and a rather mysterious and forbidding island ( especially as it is a nature and marine reserve and access is limited ). Also it has a fascinating but bloody pre-European history ( see history html file ) . I believe one of the very small adjacent islands to Kapiti is privately owned and a entrepreneur built a mansion and helipad on it.

NOTE: It is important that you read all of this readme.txt file to ensure you install this scenery correctly and get the maximum benefit from it !!! I get many emails from people who have had problems with installation of my scenery only to discover !! they DIDNT READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!
Nevertheless if you do find a genuine bug or want to suggest an improvement dont hesitate to contact me ( S.Reweti@massey.ac.nz )

This scenery ONLY WORKS with fs2002.... and works BEST with the default microsoft NZ scenery( MUST be activated ) , the NZ 150 mesh(optional) , and the new NZ landclass(optional) activated .. These sceneries/links are available from the following site :

SCENERY FEATURES

The scenery includes a lighthouse with rotating lights, large house, photorealistic trees, helipad near house, luxury yacht with helipad, powerboats, fishing trawlers

FINAL STEP : You must unzip the newtrees2002.zip and follow the instructions in the readme.txt in that zip file to install the new generic photorealistic trees into its own directory of FS2002. There is a tree bgl library + textures which must be installed as its own scenery with priority level about 7 or 8.If you dont install it the scenery will probably not work ...

FRAME RATE :
Please note this scenery frame rate is quite poor ... i was only able to achieve about 3-5 fps on my 550 MHZ celeron. This is because the exclude /flatten file does not seem to get rid of the default nz scenery kapiti island or the nz 150 mesh kapiti island. You dont actually see these two underlying islands because the kapiti scenery writes over them ... however I suspect that they are still being processed by fs2k2 , hence the lousy frame rate. Also the island has been sampled at a high resolution albeit the file size is only 49k. There is a marginal improvement by de-activating the nz 150 mesh but i suggest that you dont, as the NZ 150 mesh has excellent wellington hills/scenery etc. Also deactivating the nz default scenery just stuffs up the coast line so if anybody out there has a suggestion on how to delete the underlying default kapiti island mesh please let us know. I would be very keen to find out what frame rate people are getting on reasonably high spec machines. However i believe Christian Stock ( the author of 150 mesh ) and Greg Bishop are both having another look at this island to see what they can come up with to improve the framerate. Keep a lookout for version 2.0!!
