MERIDIAN NAS (MC CAIN FIELD), MISSISSIPPI, KNMM2K4.ZIP, FS2004 SCENERY

The military has long since embraced the idea of using less taxiways at their airports. While looking thru the SOUTH CENTRAL U.S. AIRPORT/FACILITY DIRECTORY, I has pleasently surprised to find this gem of an airport!! Imagine, a facility similar to the no-taxiway system that I love so much!! I modified the skimpy default 2004 version. What a delight it is to do a REAL airport. Maybe in the future, I can produce a more realistic version.
The bad news is that FS2004's version is flawed!! Runway 19 left is missing in ATC, and this is the only ILS! So I have included a non-tower AFCAD ( and a tower one). It is best to use no tower because you can pick the runways that work with this design, at least some of them. The common traffic, no tower, landing and takeoff menus are not correct. Here are the actual runways:
TAKEOFF:

1 19 RIGHT (ok for takeoff)
2 1 RIGHT (ok for takeoff)
3 R10 (ok for takeoff)

LANDING:

1 1 LEFT (correct listing--ok for landing)
2 19 RIGHT (correct listing, not for landing)

The best thing, what I usually follow using the no-tower AFCAD, is to takeoff on runway 1 RIGHT, and land on 1 LEFT, which is what you would do in the no-taxiway system with the wind coming from the north. (In a no-taxiway layout, you always land on the outer end and do a fast taxi to the terminal, using the curved extender (the military calls theirs "high speed prop hot brake area").You take off on the other parallel runway at the terminal end. The crossing 10/28 runway can be used in both directions, although it is best to takeoff on runway 10, and land on runway 28, if the wind is no problem. (There is a turn-around on the R28 end which makes it easy to used both ends.) In using the tower AFCAD, I just can't say what runways the controller will direct you to, or land you on. Some of them may not work because of the one way design of the two main runways.

It must be stated that at the real airport things would be very different then this crude simulator. For instance, for a fast attack, you can take off three planes at the same time: runways 10, 1right, and 19right. For landing, you usually would only use runway 1left, for safety reasons.

TAKEOFF PROCEDURE

The controller (AFCAD TOWER) probably will direct you to R19 for takeoff. The takeoff starts WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR PARKING SPOT! By the time you get to runway R19, your speed should be about 80 knots, using the extender, like an expressway merge. Get your clearance, and in the air you go. That's the way it is with no_taxiway: fast takeoffs, fast landings, safe and low cost, and easy on the pilots, controllers, and equipment. For landings--must be on 1L, 19L--you exit the extender at a high taxi speed. Runway 28, you go a little slower. (It was impossible to make a better turn-off because of default design.)

NOTES AND CREDITS:

* See the AFCADS, using Lee Swordy's AFCAD 2.04, for parking and so forth.
* This scenery works well with Ultimate Terrain and fs genesis mesh. OK with default.
* Non AFCAD scenery designed with EZ scenery.
* You need EZ and Runway 12 object libraries.
* Check out my no taxiway airports in FS2002. Use my name, RONALD POKATILOFF, for search.
* email: POKE60099@YAHOO.COM
* The ILS runway, 19left, 109.70, does work, but ATC probably won't land you on it. (Use it without com.)
* Install this whole file, and activate it as usual. Maybe put it in a MILITARY folder in FS9 main folder.
