Boston Logan for Flight Simulator 2004
by George Grimshaw

Version 1.0

---------------------------------------

Boston Logan International Airport
Massachusetts, USA
ICAO identifier: KBOS

Boston's Logan International Airport is the eighteenth busiest airport in the United States and the world's thirty-fourth busiest airport based on passenger volume. The airport boundary encompasses approximately 2,400 acres in East Boston, Massachusetts. New England's largest transportation center, serving more than 23 million passengers, Logan handles over 1 billion pounds of high value cargo and mail, employs over 15,000 workers and stimulates the New England regional economy by approximately $6 billion per year. It is estimated $12.8 billion in imports and $4.5 billion in exports move via Logan annually.

The airfield is comprised of five runways, fourteen miles of taxiway, and 237 acres of concrete and asphalt apron. Logan Airport has five passenger terminals each with its own ticketing, baggage claim, and ground transportation facilities. There are eighty-four gate positions at Logan which are available for both scheduled and non-scheduled service. A city within a city, Logan International Airport has its own State Police Troop, Fire-Rescue Unit and non-denominational
chapel. As it builds to accommodate future air travel, Logan continues to provide for the transportation needs of New England and the world.

Installation
------------

Unzip the files and you should have a directory called Boston Logan with two subdirectories called Scenery & texture.
To unzip the files you will need a program such as winzip. http://www.winzip.com/

There will be a directory called AFCAD2. Ignore this for now. The contents of this directory will make your AI Aircraft operate correctly.

Cut and paste the Boston Logan folder into the FS2004\Addon scenery\

Now run FS2004. Once the main option screen appears click on settings and then scenery Library.

Now click on Add Area.
Find the Addon scenery directory inside your installation of FS2004 & click on it.
Press Ok & it should say Boston Logan at the top of your scenery library list.

The next part is optional.
Shut down FS2004 & go into the AFCAD2 directory. Inside here there will be a file called AF2_KBOS.bgl. This must be copied to your Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\Scenery.

If you install the AFCAD correctly the AI Aircraft will follow the taxiways and park at the gates precisely. If not. They will use the old Microsoft AI paths and you'll see aircraft taxi on the grass. Not pretty.

Make sure you restart FS2004 so the new scenery can be loaded. It won't load if you do not restart FS2004.

Ok, you should be all set. Maybe for my next scenery I will use an installer :)

EXTRAS
------
I've included an Image called KBOS layout.jpg. Use this to help learn Logan's maze-like layout. It lists the taxiway designations that will help you find your way to the gate assigned by ground control. Print it out!

The Coolest part of FS2004 for me is AI Traffic. Those of you that wish to upgrade your traffic at Logan, here's a listing of Airlines that visit Logan.

Aer Lingus, Air Canada/Air Canada Jazz, Air France, Air Jamaica, AirTran, Alaska Airlines, Alitalia, America West, American/American Eagle, ATA, British Airways, Cape Air, Continental, Delta Air Lines/Shuttle/Connection, Icelandair, KLM, Lufthansa, Midwest, Northwest, Qantas, SATA, Song, Swiss, TACA, United/Express, US Airways/Shuttle, Virgin Atlantic.

The finest AI Aircraft are made by AI Aardvark and FS Painter. These can be downloaded at SurClaro.com. Visit http://www.ai-aardvark.com/ for more info.

Known Problems & Notes
----------------------

Not Tested with FS2002 or earlier

The ILS is using positions from the old Microsoft runways & is offset slightly. This will be fixed in an update because it's impossible to fix at this time without extra software support.

The New Delta hanger currently under construction at the real world Logan was ignored due to lack of decent reference material.

Thanks to Martin(www.flytampa.com) for releasing an excellent pack of Static planes.
A Static Aircraft addon for you VATSIM boys may be included in the update.

I hope some of you guy's enjoy flying into Logan. It took me one whole year to make, admittedly at a leisurely pace & I knew nothing about scenery design when I started. I quit twice, but guilt from all your emails brought me back to finish it :)
