description=The Huetter H-17 was built by two Austrian brothers, Ulrich and Wolfgang, who lived in Salisburg. They felt that the larger slower German sailplanes were not suitable for the conditions found in their country. After learning to fly in a Grunau Baby, Ulrich designed their first model, the H-17 and after the first sucessful flights, about a dozen plans were sold. In 1934 fhe brothers flew the H-17 in the Austrian National Competition at Gaisberg. They joined the Schempp-Hirth company about 18 months later as designers. This company built about 5 Goeppingen 5 sailplanes from the Huetter Bros. plans of the H-17, adding a landing wheel and canopy.
