=======
HISTORY
=======
The Heinkel He 100 was the successor of the He 112.
In 1935, the 112 was a quite modern fighter with small elliptical wings and a retractable landing gear. But the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was a little bit superior and won the german fighter selection competition of 1936.

But the engineers at Heinkel did not surrender. In 1937, Siegfried Günther designed a new high-speed fighter, with a potential of 700km/h, - the He100. For easier production, it had less curves, components and component groups than the He 112.

The main innovation of the He 100 was its cooling system!
It had no normal, drag producing cooling system, but a condensation system which used parts of the wing and fuselage surface to cool down it´s oil and water.

The second prototype with a DB601M powerplant (1.050PS) reached the speed record of 634km/h, a speed, the Bf 109 serial planes first reached in 1942 with a much more powerful engine. But this was not enough to convince the RLM, - so Heinkel equipped a new prototype with a short-life special engine with more power (up to 1.800PS). Now the He 100 broke the absolute world speed record (708km/h, Italy) with a speed of 746km/h (Testpilot Hans Dieterle in 30.03.1939).

But instead of recognizing that the He 100 was clearly superior to the Bf109, the RLM gave Messerschmitt the instruction to top Heinkels speed record and forbid Heinkel to counter. For the narrow-minded men at RLM there must not be a faster aircraft than the standard fighter Me 109.
Messerschmitt did it with the Me 209, which had almost no similarities to the Me109. The Me209 was a pure raceplane.

Heinkel only built 25 He 100D-0 on his own account.

Three were sold to Japan where the influence became visible in the Kawasaki Ki-61 "Hien".
Jakovlev in the UDSSR analized the He 100 for his fighters Jak-1 and Jak-3.
A few He 100 were used to defend the Heinkel facilities at Rostock.

Some planes were shown for propaganda purposes as new fighter He 113.

INSTALLATION:
============

Create a new folder under your CFS or FS98 \Aircraft subdirectory. Name it He100D .

Extract file He100D.ZIP into this \ He100D directory.

Extract file He100gau.ZIP into the CFS or FS98 \ Gauges folder.

NOTE FOR INSTALLATION IN CFS:

Please open the panel folder of the He100D.
Delete the existing panel.cfg and rename the file Panel.cfs to Panel.cfg
This will add ammunition counters (by Jerry Beckwith) to the panel.
Use this Panel.cfg - version only with CFS. It will not work with FS98!

THE FS - MODEL:
==============

The aircraft was built with Aircraft Factory 99. For several components I used Andrea Cini´s excellent "Component Maker".
(** download his tools at: http://web.infinito.it/utenti/a/andrea_cini/acdtools/ **)

To make the parts move I used Aircraft Animator. Press the spoiler-key to open the canopy.

My He 100D-0 "white 12" is one of those planes, shown for propaganda purposes as new fighter
He 113. There exist a lot of photos showing exactly this plane!

I could not find any Photograph of the He 100´s panel. The Panel for FS/CFS is fictitious.
For navigation in FS98 I added modern instuments on a separate panel (shift 2). Look into the "read" - folder for informations about the ed461 gauge.

SOUND: please download and use Bernd Drefahl´s excellent DB605 engine sound at
http://www.SurClaro
Filename: db605f98.zip

I hope you´ll like my work and would appreciate your feedback!
