After the end of the II.WW the soarig began a common rise worldwise. The first postwar world championship in Samedan/Switzerland showed the advent of the highsped crosscountry soaring. The flight-ingenieurs of the Gyor Aero Club in 1950 with the leadership of A. Lampich and dr. K. Szomolanyi decided to design and construct a new plane for this new kind of their favorite sport. Because lack on suitable wood, the new plane was designed and build for surplus war metall material. As from this virtual model you can see, the plane had shape which looks very modern today too. The duraluminium wing had Junkers type ailerons and flaps. The welded steeltube fuselage had elektronsheet (aluminium-magnesium alloy) planking. The pilot through the good streamlined plexi canopy had very good sight in all directions. After the start was not only the landing gear retractable but the noseskid too. For controlling the wing-loading in flight and so optimalize the gliding ratio at high speeds, there were possibility for 100 kg ballast in the wings.

By the Aircraft Department of the Technical University of Budapest performance measurements were carried out on the glider. The work were done by Dezso George-Falvy (his in-flight performance measurements of the german Horten-IV tailless glider became well-known in the 1960 years). The results collected during test flights with flap settings of -3, 0, 10, 20 and 30 degrees, had shown a best gliding ratio of 36,8 at 92,5 km/h gliding speed, a gliding ratio of 26,7 at 120 km/h gliding speed, and of 17,7 at 150 km/h gliding speed. There were remarkable datas in 1951.

The Gyor-2 were built only in 1 exemplar. In the fifties took part on several contests and had flown some national speed records.

This FS 2000 wirtual model is made on the basis of original drawings and calculations with FSDS 2 and is fully animated. Sorry but from the panel there are only very poor photos, so with a modification of J. SorgenfreiĀ“s gen_sail photo (thank you Achim) it is hand-drawn. The gauges are the work of Max Roodweldt. Many thanks for his kind permission for using them. You can launch the plane by the VET technik of M.Koch. Many thanks for him too.

Flight dynamics is based on original calculations and in-flight measured datas.
