FS98 - Gotha G-II Large German Bomber 1916
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Stephan Scholz - November 2002
Installation:
-------------

Unzip and place the folder "Gotha G.II" into the FS2002 Aircraft Directory.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
===============
The Aircraft.cfg file MUST NOT BE EDITED WITH FSEDIT. If so, it will over-write a number of parameters and render the Flight dynamics useless. Any editing is to be done with anothe editor such as Notepad, otherwise the low RPM values will be substituted for FS2002 default values, and the realistic behaviour of the model will be destroyed.

The Virtual Gotha G-II model:
-----------------------------

Made with Abacus Aircraft Factory 99.

This model is based on lots of detailed information from various sources on the Internet:

Roden 1/72 Scale Model Aircraft
The Canadian Aces Home Page
Blauer Max Flugzeug Museum

The Colour scheme comes from a colour picture in the book
Warbirds: Military Aircraft of the First World War in Colour
ISBN 0356080757
and
the Magazine 'Aircraft Profiles' issue 115

The G-II model features an open passageway connecting the forward and rear gunner positions with the pilot´s open cockpit, which was placed on the left.

It was complicated to group all the components, structures and parts into the different sections so that this passageway and cockpit would be acceptably visible.

The model also features transparent windows in the front on the sides for the gunner and pilot.

The orange panels on the fuselage sides near the propellers protectors for the rear gunner against debris thrown up by the props, and from the props themselves.

Flight Dynamics:
----------------
FSAviator´s excellent flight dynamics give the plane a very realistic behaviour, and you have the possibility of flying the plane with full, partial or no payload. This way you will be able to discover the difference in flight behaviour, depending on the load, and will understand the difficulties that pilots had upon landing their empty planes after missions. Please read the text "How2DropBombs.txt", where you will find detailed instructions on how to do this.

The kneeboard contains detailed flying instructions by FSAviator.

Note:
In those days these planes had no flaps, wheel-steering, spoilers or brakes... They had manual mixture so disable the auto-mixture control option in FS2002.
Also, they didn´t have any elevator trim either, for they were throttle-trimmed. This is reproduced faithfully in the Flight Dynamics.

Panel:
------
A photo-realistic panel adapted from an original photograph of the Gotha flight deck.
In those days, cockpits were sparsely instrumented, having normally no more than RPM and fuel gauges for the engines, temperature gauge, a compass, airspeed indicator and altimeter for navigation, and some kind of bank/turn indicator.
Gauges by Bastian Hundt and Horst Weingärtner.
The CFS fuel selector gauge is to be toggled between tanks to initialize the bogus fuel tank that contains the bomb weight, so that by emptying it from the fuel menu, you can experience the difference in flight handling when flying without payload.

Sounds:
-------
Default Cessna C182 sounds, but the GothVsnd.zip custom sounds available for download are recommended, as they have been especially designed for the low RPM level of the engines on this model.

Animation:
----------
