FS2000/2:WORDS BY JON WATKINS

I have reworked Giovanni's air file to make it more Stable, she will now fly to 690kts with no adverse flight characteristics. These flight dynamics are not 100% accurate as it is impossible with any flight simulator to achieve but they do represent the Buccaneer in many ways, Stable flight at ultra low level and high speed, slow rolling and turning at speeds under 300kts, relatively slow landing speed approx 130-140kts and stable taxi. Beware of the airbrakes, as the Bucc was a carrier borne aircraft the airbrakes have been made over sensitive so you can land on carriers. I did alter this so that it wasnt so sharp, but still stop you dead in the sky (if not used with care) to retain carrier landing capability.
Have fun flying her, I am sure you will love the responsive nature of the Brick.

History:

The Hawker siddley Buccaneer was first designed in the Early 1950's as an Aircraft carrier borne Nuclear Strike aircraft. Designed to fly very low underneath enemy radars to deliver a nuclear weapon with pinpoint accuracy. As development went on it was soon realised that the "Brick" was a very capable aircraft, very stable at low level and very fast even by todays standards and was given two very distinct nicknames by her crews, THE BANANA JET in reference to her shape when viewed from above and, THE BRICK if an engine failed whilst in flight the Buccaneer would make a very good impression of a flying Brick. Despite her bad habits she soon became world famous for her low level antics and her incredible strike capability
The Navy enjoyed remarkable success with the Buccaneer but alas the days were numbered for the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers. In 1978 the last British Full Deck Aircraft carrier, HMS Ark Royal, was decommisioned and her Phantoms and Buccaneers handed to the Royal Air Force.
Hawker Siddley Buccaneer S2B, XX894, was built in 1976 as a new airframe for the Royal Air Force. She flew with both 12 Squadrons and 208 and had a distinctive career taking part in many exercises in the UK, USA, Egypt and many other countries. "894" was given the Crowning Glory to her already impressive history, in 1991 she was one of six sent to the Gulf to assist the RAF Tornados in the Laser designation role. She would fly in formation with the Tornado's and designate Targets for the bombers to drop their weapons. As the War progressed the Buccaneer force started to carry its own Bombs and attacked their own targets such as Bridges and Airfields. One aircraft managed to destroy an enemy Antonov AN22 Transport plane on the ground, such was the accuracy of the allied bombing. In1994 the Buccaneer force was finaly retired from the Royal Air Force, ending a wonderful chapter in Aviation history. October 1994, after many hard discussions and meetings the deal was made and "894" was sold to a group of four Bucc loving people, myself being one of them. She was roaded from RAF St Athen in Wales all the way to Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Leicestershire. She remained there taking part as a static exhibit for 2 years before being moved to RAF Kemble in Gloucestershire where she now resides. She now moves under her own power and fast Taxis down Kemble's Runway.

Bucc Folk Song sung on the last night of Buccaneer RAF Operations, officers mess, RAF Lossiemouth:

"Gimme Buccaneers,
they are british through and through,
the Banana Jet the best we had yet,
we are the last of the few."

"The only replacement for a Buccaneer is another Buccaneer!"
RAF Officer, 16 Sqn.

I would just like to thank Giovanni for producing such a wonderful Model of 894 and through his work this wonderful aircraft still flies, albeit virtually. Thankyou Giovanni from all that love this remarkable Aeroplane.
