*VERSION 2.01*

***AIRCRAFT BY STEWART-GLOBAL & FLIGHTFX***

GENERAL:

The MD-80 v2.0 brings a new aircraft fully compatible with FS2002. You will find that we've completely redone most of the model, making it completely Gmax. It features the latest reflection including dynamic shine, lighting, and animation technology including accurate flaps, landing gears, and thrust reversers and dynamic wing views. This is only the first in a line of MD aircraft. Next will likely be the MD83 or 87. The FDE is the superb MD80 FDE by Sam Chin with modifications by Mike Baumann, and the model is by Jonathan Stewart and Erick Cantu. This aircraft is truly a multi-group effort, one of many to come. The model itself is evidenced of this. The fuselage, fins, engines, and landing gear are done by FlightFX. The wings, stabs, and aft fuselage section are by SGA.

The sounds were recorded from real DC-9's and MD80's. Some of the recordings were taken from www.airsidetv.com - with permission of course. The warning sounds are by Matt Frischmann.

We hope to soon include a highly realistic MD-80 panel with this aircraft. For now, we recommend using Paul Golding's wonderful MD-80 panel for FS2000. While it is only for FS2000, there are patches available to make the panel compatible in FS2002, however, with the loss of some features.

INSTALLTION:

Step 1#
Unzip directly into aircraft folder. Sounds are included, however the panel is default 737

Step 2# (OPTIONAL)
FS defaults to 22,050 Hz and appears to convert all sounds to that. This makes anything recorded at a higher sample level sound horrible. To get around this, you will need to open up your fs2002.cfg file (Found in the root FS folder) in a text editor such a Notepad. Find and delete all content under the header [SOUND]. Next replace the text under the [SOUND] header with the following:

SOUND=1
SOUND_FADER1=1.000000
SOUND_FADER2=0.470000
SOUND_FADER3=0.620000
SOUND_FADER4=0.800000
SOUND_FADER5=0.810000
SOUND_FADER6=1.000000
SOUND_QUALITY=2
Channels=2 (4 for surround sound)
SamplesPerSec=44100
BitsPerSample=16

If done right, you should have something that looks like this in your fs2002.cfg file:

[SOUND]
SOUND=1
SOUND_FADER1=1.000000
SOUND_FADER2=0.470000
SOUND_FADER3=0.620000
SOUND_FADER4=0.800000
SOUND_FADER5=0.810000
SOUND_FADER6=1.000000
SOUND_QUALITY=2
Channels=2 (4 for surround sound)
SamplesPerSec=44100
BitsPerSample=16

For your conveinance, here is the default intry should you need to restore this section:

[SOUND]
SOUND=1
SOUND_FADER1=0.500000
SOUND_FADER2=0.100000
SOUND_FADER3=0.300000
SOUND_FADER4=0.800000
SOUND_FADER5=0.500000
SOUND_FADER6=0.800000
SOUND_QUALITY=1

Note: I have tested this modification on many different systems running FS, and it did cause a noticeable increase in sound quality on all systems.

Step #3
The landing lights on this aircraft fold in and out of the wing when turned on or off. To realistically simulate this effect, we had to link the landing lights to the TAILHOOK animation. In order to use the landing lights, you must first setup a key that is used to activate the TAILHOOK animation, as it is not set by default.

Go to the Options-> Controls-> Assignments menu
-At the bottom of the "General aircraft commands", you will find the "EXTEND/RETRACT TAILHOOK" command.
