GAAST, N 53:01,00 E 24:75,00, is the first part of the VFR scenery for West Friesland which I am trying to put on the map. More parts will follow.
The area I am working on covers a triangle that runs from the IJselmeer dam (East end) via Makkum down to Hindelopen in the South and through Parrega back to the IJselmeer dam, which is called "Afsluitdijk".

The history of Gaast goes back to the 13th century and it's existence has to do with whaling in those days. The symbol of the village is still the whale. The village has 239 inhabitants and my family is part of the population.
Already before the Zuiderzee was closed off from the North Sea by this famous dam most of the fishing activities had moved to Makkum because it had a harbour. It's only for a year now that the fish market in Makkum has been closed. No longer are codfish, sole, haddock, plaice and shrimps being sold in the harbour. It was a nice sight and attracted tourists when ships would moor off and unload their catch ashore. Gaast has some farmers and a few man work as thatchers.
It is a very quiet village now and is part of a touristy route that runs along the IJselmeer.

The scenery is an add-on for the NL2000 scenery.
It will work also without NL2000 but you will miss the connection with the infrastructure that is so marvellously laid down in NL2000

Installation:

Create a folder "FS2000\Scenery\W-Friesland\scenery".

Unzip W-Friesland to a temp folder
Unzip Gaast.zip to FS2000\Scenery\W-Friesland\scenery"
Unzip Texture.zip to "FS2000\Texture"

Now add the West Friesland area to the FS2000 Scenery Library
'World, Scenery Library' Add area, \scenery\W-Friesland\scenery
Give it a description like "West Friesland" or something like that.
Make sure that the scenery goes to a higher level than the NL2000 scenery.
If you have already installed NL2000 it will happen automatically. If you install NL2000 afterwards then you will have to move NL2000 down. It should be below all add-ons for NL2000

For users who find the NL2000 country texture to dark I included a slightly lighter Nl_akker.bmp. Make a copy of the original first. See FS2000\scenery\NL2000\texture

Assuming that you installed NL2000 already, unzip
NEW-NL_akker.zip to the texture folder of NL2000

The official website van NL2000 is: http://www.nl-2000.com or http://www.nl2000.tmfweb.nl

Then it is about time to install the following files if you have not already done so in the past.
You may download them from www.SurClaro
There are many designers who use these texture files so if you wish to install add-on scenery you might as well have them all.

1. aip210tx.zip

Airport 2.60 Textures. Complete package of textures that accompany v2.60 of the Airport scenery design program by Pascal Meziat, Brian McWilliams and Tom Hiscox.

2. vodtex30.zip

Visual Object Designer v3.0 Textures package. This file contains all genuine VOD textures for VOD v3.0 scenery. By Rafael Garcia Sanchez.

3. asd21txt.zip

ASD 2.1 Textures. Required for proper functioning of scenery designed by Abacus "Airport & Scenery Designer" Version 2.1.

Unzip these files to the FS2000\texture folder.

4. tree_0.zip

Textures of trees by Gerrish Gray. Tree_u2.zip is not an update and is only used by designers so you don't need that file..
Read the instructiones on how to install them.

When all that is done it's time to start up FS2000!

To reach Gaast you can leave from Schiphol on a course of 030. From Lelystad 350. You will fly over the Stavoren scenery by Joop Mak. Flying between 500 and 1000 ft would be just right. You can of course fly lower if you want to have a good look at the details. Take a look in Parrega and see if my car is ready. It is in the garage next to the Texaco gas station. If you get close enough the doors will open. You will get there if you leave Gaast following the road to the East.

You should certainly try the winter season. January for instance. You would expect to see skating people at any time. It's amazing to see how the trees have lost their leaves except for the conifers of course.
In order to see this beautiful winter landscape you must deactivate NL2000.
World-Scenery Library, uncheck "The Netherlands 2000".
The four seasons are not ready yet in NL2000! It's also worthwhile to see the scenery at night!

Enjoy

The scenery was made with Airport 2.60

CREDITS:

Joop Mak who showed me what it was about. Looking and listening for one hour beats a day reading. All of a sudden the manuals made more sense to me.

Gerrish Gray his advice and his beautiful collection of trees.

Tony Adams, Doc George en Rafael Sanchez for their beautiful macros.

Robert Waszkiewicz for his nice lanterns even though it took me a while to figure out what he meant with setting the colours.

Tom Hiscox, Pascal Meziat, en Manfred Moldenhauer for their excellent tools.

The Dutch team that worked so hard to get NL2000 on it's feet. We will certainly see more of these guys.
Finally the many people who contributed to the art of scenery making but of whom I do not now all the names.

Questions, suggestions, criticism or admiration (-: to Roelof Kruijer,
Please take into account that this is my first attempt.
