EBCV v1.0, Feb 2000)

1. DESCRIPTION

Chièvres Nato Air Base (EBCV) is operated by the U.S. Air Force. The base is located about 60 miles Southwest of Brussels, Belgium (Europe).

2. TECHNICALITIES

2.1 Compatibility

This scenery is designed for and tested on FS2000 only. It has not been designed for compatibility with other scenery packages. As a result, and considering the particular scenery aspects featured by FS2K, it will most probably conflict with such scenery. It definitely will not work with FS98 or earlier versions.

This scenery does not affect frame rates in a material way. That's also the reason why I haven't included statics or other fancy 3D objects.

You don't need to set neither the flatten nor the exclude switch in FS2K. The scenery should be fine as it is.

2.2 File content

Ebcv.zip includes the following files:

* ebcv.bgl: the scenery;
* ebcv_excl.bgl: the exclude file;
* ebcv_iap.jpg: approach plates;
* ebcv.txt: this file;
* ebtx??.bmp: textures;
* ebafd.bgl: the FS menu item;
* fileid.id: zip file header

2.3 Installation

2.3.1. the scenery files:
Follow the standard procedure. Create a new directory - the main directory - (for example "ebcv") wherever you choose.
Unzip ebcv.zip in this main ebcv directory. The two required subdirectories \scenery and \texture are automatically created and filled.
As a matter of control, you may want to verify that the *.bgl file appears in the \scenery subdirectory, and the *.bmp files in the \texture subdirectory.

2.3.2. other files:
The files will appear in your main ebcv directory after execution of point 2.3.1. above.

The ebcv_iap.jpg file is an approach diagram as made with FINAL APPROACH. I thought it to be an interesting alternative for those who do not use this software.

Keep ebcv.txt for reference purposes and discard fileid.id.

Finally, activate the new scenery by the FS2K menu.

2.4 Scenery complexity

Visibility levels are set as follows:
- very sparse: runways only;
- sparse: runways + ground polygons (grass, apron and taxiways)
- normal: sparse + hangars and other objects

2.5 Textures

This scenery uses specific bitmap textures as provided. Apart from these textures, you'll need standard AIRPORT textures. These are widely available on popular download sites (where you found these files), so I haven't included them in this package.

3. OPERATIONS

3.1 Airport

Airport coordinates are N 50 34 30 / E 003 50 30. Airport elevation is 61m (201ft MSL).

One startup position is available for the rwy 26 holding position. Select the "Go To Airports" Menu. There you have two alternatives:

1. select Europe/Belgium Air Bases (this is a new entry under 'Belgium');
2. point to the button older FS 5.1 scenery and select "Chièvres AB".

3.2 Runways

Rwy 26/06: 8154*164 ft. The rwy frequency, id and heading is as follows: 108.55 ICV 261°. This package includes the rwy 26 ILS approach plate as well.

3.3 Navaids

The CIV VOR/DME - frequency 113.20 - is a standard navaid on FS2K, but I nevertheless have included it in this scenery. The exclude file eliminates the default one. Reason is that the VOR and DME are distinct navaids in FS2K. That's not an issue as such, but problem is that FS2K assigned an identical frequency to both. As a result, you can't access both on your navigation instruments - one of them always masking the other one. The navaid included in this scenery will feature both the VOR and the DME on the same navigation radio at the same time.
