9/4/99

Here's a new version of my popular talking gear indicator for FS98, based
on the default Learjet gauge. When the gear comes down and is locked, the
copilot utters a standard phrase. In the current version, he also indicates
when the gear is up. Another new feature is that the WAV files are separate
from the GAU file. This means that you can substitute your own WAV files.
Just be sure that yours have the same names as mine: TALKUP.WAV and
TALKDN.WAV.

Installation requires some knowledge of FS98/CFS panel structure. Briefly,
the GAU file needs to be in the \GAUGES subfolder and a line needs to be
added to your aircraft's PANEL.CFG file. For those who are unfamiliar with
panel structure, the enclosed PANEL.CFG file can be used to replace the
default Learjet gear indicator. Simply copy the file into the \LEAR45\PANEL
subfolder. You may first wish to save a copy of the existing PANEL.CFG file.
The WAV files must be in the \SOUND subfolder of FS98 or CFS. If they are
NOT there, you will receive error messages when using the gauge.

HELPFUL HINT: If you feel that the copilot is too quick to announce the gear
status, try recording a brief pause at the beginning of your WAV file.

I hereby declare this gauge to be in the Public Domain. Anyone may use
it for any non-violent purpose, without permission. You don't need to
acknowledge me as the original designer, but it would be nice. The gauge
should not harm your computer but, if you imagine it has, I accept no
liability.
