Aero Club General Villegas, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina: For FS2004

By: Julian M. Avisenis

Features:

* Care has been taken to ensure that the airfield blends in well with its surroundings. I have altered the neighbouring landclass tiles to do this, and have also modified the placing of autogen trees. New autogen trees have been "planted" as needed.

* All of the buildings have been designed using gmax. Various photographs have been used as reference.

* Textures are "re-used" where possible, thereby improving frame-rates.

* Roads on the property have been made using gmax with custom gravel road textures. This enables better "blending" of the edges of the road with the surrounding grass.

* Runway numbers have been made using the same technique.

* The use of EZ-scenery adds vehicles and other objects of interest.

* Various trees have been used to enhance the scenery - see Credits below.

* An animated windsock by Sidney Schwartz is included.

* A refuelling area (marked with a yellow "F") is available in front of one of the hangars.

* Basic night textures are included.

* A fairly comprehensive AFCAD file is included. Aircraft parking positions are in front of the various hangars.

* Tower frequency is 122.1. Runway 13/31 is 980m long. Runway 03/21 is 900m long.

Installation:

Important: Please read and follow these instructions very carefully. I will not be held responsible for any mistakes. There is more than one possible way of installing this scenery. Choose the one most appropriate to your needs. This scenery uses EZ-Scenery objects. It also uses Gerrish's Trees Library by Gerrish Gray. Experienced simmers, please excuse the lengthy instructions. I am trying to make this installation easy for all to use.

1. Gerrish's Trees Library: At SurClaro it is trees_v3.zip. When you unzip it, you will find that it contains further zip files. Copy the file "Trees_0" from the scenery.zip file to your Flight Simulator 9/Scenery/BASE/Scenery folder. (I find this works best for me.) Then copy the contents of FS2002.zip to your Flight Simulator 9/Texture folder.

2. If you already have the EZ-Scenery object libraries installed, please ensure that your EZ-Scenery object library includes Extra Objects v1.1 by Lars Hoyer (you need the ExtraObjects.bgl file and associated textures, this is not the same extra objects file used in my Chivilcoy scenery) and small_airstrip_objects_ss by Sidney Schwartz.(At SurClaro they are: extobj11.zip and small_airstrip_objects_ss_v1.zip.)

It is a good idea to install these libraries anyway. Once installed, they will be ready for use with any other addon scenery that may also require them. You will then also avoid duplication of these objects in the future, as they have a tendency to wind up as multiple copies of the same thing scattered throughout your Addon Scenery folder. These object libraries need to be added and activated in FS2004 in much the same way that any other addon scenery would be added and activated. Instructions for this are included in the EZ-Scenery downloads. If you decide to follow this method, please do so before proceeding to "A" below.

3. Should you decide not to add these libraries, but want to install only the scenery objects relevant to this General Villegas addon, then proceed to "B" below.

A. Installation where the EZ-Scenery libraries have already been installed and updated as above:
1. Start by extracting the zip to a temporary folder.
2. Copy the folder "General Villegas" to your Flight Simulator 9/AddonScenery folder.
3. Open the folder "AFCAD".
4. Copy the file AF2_GAS to your Flight Simulator 9/AddonScenery/scenery folder.
5. Open the folder "AG Tree Library".
6. Copy the file "ag_tree_lib" to your Flight Simulator9/AddonScenery/scenery folder.
7. Start FS2004 and go to "SETTINGS".
8. Click on "Scenery Library...".
9. In the "SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY" window, click on the "Add Area" button.
10.In the "Select Scenery Directory" window, find and open the "Addon Scenery" folder
within Flight Simulator 9.
11.Select "General Villegas" by clicking only once on it (don't open it) and then click the
"OK" button.
12.Exit, restart FS2004, go to one of the runways at GAS and explore.

B. Installation where only the relevant files are to be installed, i.e. not the full EZ-
Scenery object libraries:
1. Start by extracting the zip to a temporary folder.
2. Open the folder "Library files". It contains the relevant EZ-Scenery folder.
3. Open the folder. You will see that it contains two subfolders "scenery" and "texture".
4. Open the "General Villegas" folder. It also contains "scenery" and "texture" subfolders.
5. Copy the contents of the EZ-Scenery "scenery" subfolder to the "General Villegas/scenery" subfolder.
6. Similarly, copy the contents of the EZ-Scenery "texture" subfolder to the "General Villegas/texture" subfolder.
7. Now copy the altered "General Villegas" folder to your Flight Simulator 9/AddonScenery folder.
8. Open the folder "AFCAD".
9. Copy the file AF2_GAS to your Flight Simulator 9/AddonScenery/scenery folder.
10.Open the folder "AG Tree Library".
11.Copy the file "ag_tree_lib" to your Flight Simulator9/AddonScenery/scenery folder.
12.Start FS2004 and go to "SETTINGS".
13.Click on "Scenery Library...".
14.In the "SETTINGS - SCENERY LIBRARY" window, click on the "Add Area" button.
15.In the "Select Scenery Directory" window, find and open the "Addon Scenery" folder
within Flight Simulator 9.
16.Select "General Villegas" by clicking only once on it (don't open it) and then click the "OK"
button.
17.Click OK, exit, restart FS2004, go to one of the runways at GAS and explore.

Known Issues:
1. Not really an issue, but please note that there is more than one version of Arno Gerretsen's AG Tree Library (ag_tree_lib.bgl). A version exists which is for the northern hemisphere only and it is not the same as the one used here. I have used version 1.20 which also works for the southern hemisphere. Also note that you may already have an older version of ag_tree_lib.bgl in ANOTHER active Flight Simulator9 directory (other than Flight Simulator9/AddonScenery/scenery), such as Scenery/Generic/Scenery or Scenery/BASE/Scenery. If so, please overwrite it with the version I have included.

Credits:

The greater part of this scenery was designed using "gmax" by discreet.
"Scenery Builder" by Luis Sa and PTSim was used extensively for putting everything together.
Airport for windows v2.60 by Tom Hiscox, Pascal Meziat and Manfred Moldenhauer was used to place some objects.
Gerrish Gray for the use of Gerrish's Trees Library. I urge you to register with him as a user of his trees by sending him an e-mail (gerrish@flightsims.co.uk).
Arno Gerretsen for his AG Tree Library.
Lars Hoyer and Sidney Schwartz for their objects in the EZ-Scenery libraries.
Finally, but not least: Federico Malfu Sanchez who requested this scenery and provided inspiration, encouragement and useful additional information.

Legal and contact:

This scenery is freeware. It is not to be used in whole or part for profit. It may not be altered for redistribution. You may upload it in its complete form to another flight simulator site, provided there is no charge for use of that site or the uploaded scenery.
