FS98 Dornier Do-24ATT ocean-going amphibious flying boat
------------------------------------------------------- by Stephan Scholz

INSTALLATION
------------
- Unzip "Do-24ATT.zip" into a temporary directory
- Copy the directory "Do-24ATT" into the main FS98 aircraft directory.
Two versions are provided, one for operating from land and one for water.
Both will appear in your FS98 aircraft index.
- Unzip "Guages.zip" into the main FS98 Gauges folder.

The virtual Model
-----------------
Built with Abacus Aircraft Factory 99 and animated with Abacus Aircraft Animator: Rudder, elevator and propeller, and also landing-gear for the land version. AF99 Parts count is at a quite fully packed 149.9% for the land version and 146.1% for the water version. Bleedthrough is happily and surprisingly at a bare minimum, thanks to ample use of glue, insignia and correct grouping of parts.

Being an amphibious flying boat, two models are supplied with this release:
1.- The water version, whose lower hull disappears at speeds below 70 kt.
2.- The land version, with retractable landing gear and permanently visible lower hull.

Textures:
---------
By Udo Entenmann, whose care and expertise has provided wonderful metallic textures.

Panel:
------
Custom panel carefully designed from original photographs by Pablo Schultze-Rohnhof, with gauges included.

Sounds:
-------
Very fitting ATR turboprop sounds by Graham Waterfield are provided. Water .wav sounds by Mike Hambly.

Cruise: 135-145 kt
Max speed: 160 kt
Stall (clean or dirty): below 77 kt
Manouevering speed: 117 kt

30-40%: 115 kt
VMax with ext.landing gear: 106 kt

The real Dornier Do-24ATT
-------------------------

The Do-24ATT is a modified amphibian prototype based on the 1944 Dornier Do-24, with the wings of the Do-228, P&WC PT6A-45 Turboprop engines, retractable landing gear and advances avionics. ATT stands for Amphibische Technology Träger.

In the early 1930s, the Dutch Government commissioned Dr. Claude Dornier to design a flying boat for use in their colonies, particularly in Indonesia. The result was the Dornier 24, whose maiden flight took place on July 3, 1937. After delivery of 30 units the Do-24T came out, with improved 1,000HP Bramo engines. Roughly 200 were rolled out to become a sea rescue and transport aircraft. The Do-24 has rescued more than 11,000 people throughout the Mediterranean, the Baltic and North Seas, the Atlantic and the English Channel.

The plane found useful service well into the 1970s with the Spanish sea rescue wing. The aircraft's amazing operational characteristics in the most hostile of conditions earned her a place in history as one of the best ocean going flying boats ever.

In 1979 Dornier built the last of these models - the Do 24-TT (later known as the Do ATT), an ocean-going, amphibious, economical aircraft, which was completed in 1983. The Do ATT was fitted with an advanced technology wing cut from a single piece of aluminum spar to simplify production efforts with improved PT6A-45Bs. It first flew on April 25, 1983 and was later retired to the Deutsch Museum in Germany.

Iren Dornier, grandson of Claude Dornier, then removed the aircraft from the museum and brought it to the Philippines in 2003. It was retrofitted and restored into good working condition. It also underwent a series of rigorous test flights both on land and water and has received its airworthiness from the Philippine Aviation Authority (ATO). On February 2004 the Do-24 set off on its world tour. At present it is stationed at Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.
