Complete Canadian NavDash Database Update
1999-Oct-19

TURN ON WORD WRAP

Hi and welcome to my update for my Canadian NavDash Database. I'll keep this short like before but will say that you need the original Database (canfixit.zip). Okay so what have I changed, well I noticed while flying out of the Soo that some fixes that were in my Canada Air Pilot (CAP) were not in my Canadian Flight Supplement (CFS). After some investigating I found a similiar thing at Windsor. The only guess I have is this fixes are in the US and so were not included in the CFS. Anyways I have added these along with waypoints required for GPS approaches into: Kenora ON, Sioux Lookout ON, Smith Falls-Montague ON, Camrose AB, Fort Chipewyan AB, Lynn Lake MB, and Wetaskiwin AB. I haven't written up the actually approaches as these are available from the CAPs and other sources. I have also added SIDs for Winnipeg CYWG and STARs for Montreal-Dorval CYUL. I was able to write the STARs for CYUL because Patrick Hanna released a scanned copy of the CYUL's approach charts (Cyulair.zip) and for that I must thank him. I recommend that you download Patrick's charts for the proper approach instructions. Like my last STARs, these ones have an NDB as the final fix to turn onto final and the only speed and altitude restriction are on the IF. You may change this if you like.

I have also taken the Multi-Sensor RNAV approach into Toronto City Centre CYTZ and turned it into a STAR. This was taken directly from the CAP. I have also included an updated airport file with Winnipeg (useful for the SIDs and STARs I have released :) and Halifax which was supplied to me by Gene Guilford and for that I must thank Gene. Now then installation is basically the same as before. If you used my last fix-canada, nav-canada, apt-canada as is, then just delete it and remove the -canada from the new one.

I have also included a copy of flightplans that I have written up and flown. The Toronto CYYZ Calgary CYYC flightplan is taken from a real flightplan that I obtained from a very nice Captain on my flight to Calgary onboard AC119 C-GAUS. Here's the actually flightplan,

CYYZ/06L 1440Z PEAR8 CALON V36 YVV J531 SSM J500 VLR J500 VLN J504 YEA J476 ALOMO DARKE5 CYYC/34

Other flightplans were taken from the Prefered IFR Routes in the back of the CFS. They include three round trips out of CYYZ (CYUL, CYOW, CYQT) and three one-way trips (CYYC, CYVR, KCLE) and one round trip between CYYC and CYVR. Please feel free to change these plans to your liking. Word of advice though, make sure you have slowed down enough before you get too close to the arriving airport otherwise you'll be too high and fast and will overshot the runway. NavDash has a nasty habit of not slowing down and then zipping through the approach fixes a little to fast. Use the Orange LNAV to control the approach fixes.

INSTALLATION:

First of all unzip this file into your NavDash directory (C:\...\NavDash2). The STARs, SIDs, and flightplans will automatically be installed into there proper directories.

Well if you've installed the full Database then this should be a breeze. As I mentioned before, if you simply renamed my last fix-canada.txt to fix.txt and haven't done any changes. Delete the fix file and remove -canada from the file included. Unfortunately I inserted all of the new fixes and navaids into there respective files before I realized I should have kept a separate listing for people to manual install into their files. I unfortunately don't have any words of advice to give except incorporate all of new fix-canada and nav-canada and erase the duplicates. I do have the new airport info for you below to cut n paste.

The Future:
Well I've now played around with my NavDash database so it is back to work on TBay. I'm still doing some fine tuning after my visit back in Aug. I'm still trying to learn VOD to do some work on the city and am planning on dressing up those grey a/c sitting by the terminal. Ohh one last thing if anyone has info for more STARs or SIDs that I don't have. I'll be more then happy to write them up along with any airports that people might like added. Also please let me know if there are any more fixes that I am missing as I'm sure I am.

-Sault Ste. Marie (cyam) -Version 1.2 done, possible TL version
-Thunder Bay (cyqt) -Version 1.0 done, future version in the works
-Regina (cyqr)
-Saskatoon (cyxe)
-Calgary (cyyc) -Version 1.0 done
-Ottawa (cyow) -STAR files done
-Version 2.2 done
-NavDash Database -Update done with CYUL, CYTZ STARs, and CYWG SIDs
-CYVR STARs added
