10/17/98

Here's a universal fuel tank gauge for FS98 that displays fuel percentage
for up to 5 tanks. It comes with a tank switch (TANK5S.gau) or without one
(TANK5.GAU). To install, place the enclosed GAU files in the \GAUGES
subfolder of FS98. Those who understand FS98 panel structure may use the
tanks on any panel. For those who don't, I have enclosed a PANEL.CFG file
that places the switched gauge on the default 737 panel as an example. To
use it, simply replace the existing PANEL.CFG in the \B737_400\PANEL
subfolder with this one (after backing-up the original).

The tanks are labeled A,L,C,R,A. The first A is the left Auxiliary tank
and the last A is the right Aux. The others, of course, are Left main,
Center and Right main. If your aircraft does not have a particular tank, it
will not display any fuel for that tank. If you wish to add a center tank to
an aircraft or modify the capacity of any tank, download my TANKMOD.ZIP
utility. Mouse clicking just below a tank's designation letter (on the tank
switch rectangle) will switch the tank selector indicator to that tank. The
tank selector switch will only work if you have chosen Manual Fuel Control
from the Aircraft menu under Aircraft Settings - Fuel.

You should be aware that FS98 aircraft obey certain rules regarding tank
usage. If ALL tanks are selected, the two aux tanks and the center tank will
all drain together until empty. At that point, FS98 automatically switches
to the left and right main tanks, which then drain together. If there are no
aux tanks, or if they are empty at startup, the left main, right main and
center tanks will all drain together. If the center tank is selected, it
will drain by itself until empty. There is no automatic switch when the
center tank is empty. If either the left or right main tank is selected, its
auxiliary tank will drain first. Like the center tank, the left and right
main tanks do not trigger an automatic switch when empty, if chosen
separately. Because of the way the aux tanks are connected to the main
tanks, I'm not sure if it makes any difference to have separate switch
settings for the aux tanks. I have, however, included them anyway.

WARNING: If you switch to a tank that is empty or non-existent, your
engine(s) may quit (if you have chosen "Engine stops when out of fuel" from
the Aircraft Settings menu).

These gauges are freeware; please feel free to share them. They should
not harm your computer but, if you imagine they have, I accept no liability.
