Pushback gauge
version 1.0

Programming: Andreas Jaros & Konstantin Prokopiu
Sounds: Andreas Jaros, Jan Profe-Bracht, Uwe Kress

For questions please use our forum on the FPDA-Homepage.

*******************************************************************************************
If you want to use this gauge in a panel you want to upload somewhere, please include the FPDA_Pushback_Copyright.txt to your panel! And please read the Copyright section of this TXT.
*******************************************************************************************

If you have problems with this panel please read this documentation carefully and also read the FAQ section! This gauge was tested by many other flightsimmers. Noone of the had problems, so I don't think your problems are caused by this gauge.

Your help is needed!

In this gauge the wavs have a german accent. I'm sure this is for non-germans quite unusual. For having several other international options your help is needed. Maybe you can speak a pilot or ramper from a different country so that we can have also wavs with different accent. If you did this already, you can send them to me, then I will upload the wavs to the FPDA-homepage for giving everybody differnt country options. Thanks!

During betatesting I got very often one question:
I can't hear the engines or any other FS98 sound during pushback.

This is correct, but there is no way to get a sound because in slew mode you can't hear any sound. So please don't ask me for this problem...

Installation:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Check if you have installed the FS98 Converter and the FS98 Patch Set 1. I'm not 100% sure if they are necessary, but they are installed on my computer and I don't know what happens if they are not installed...
The same like every other gauge, the *.gau -> \GAUGES and the *.wav -> \SOUND
There are several example configurations included for giving the following FPDA panels the pushback panel. You have to download the full panel before you can use this new configurations:
- A320 panel version 1.2 (Andreas Jaros)
- B737 panel version 4 (Olav M. Roenningen)
- B767 panel vesion 7 Update 1 (Eric W. Ernst)
- B777 panel version 1 (Hiroyuki Toyohara)
If you want to use one of the included panel.cfg, then unzip the panel.cfg AND the Pushback_Pnl.bmp to the directory where the panel is located and overwrite the other files.
All previous changes of the old panel.cfg will be deleted!
If you don't have one of this panels go to the FPDA-homepage and download it:
http://www.flightsimmers.net/fpda
This pushback panel has an Airbus design because I made it for my A320 panel. But you can use it with every other panel, you just have to install the gauge to your panel.cfg, as you do it with every other gauge.
How to use it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you use the included panel.cfg than you have first to open the panelwindow with a keystroke combination:
- A320 panel: Ctrl+F5
- B737 panel: Ctrl+F2
- B767 panel: Ctrl+F5
- B777 panle: Ctrl+F7

You can also open the window of the pushback panel with the FS98 menu:
Views->Instrument Panel->Pushback Panel

The gauge has two knobs, a button and a light. I made all in an Airbus-design, also this gauge (of course) doesn't exist in the real cockpit.

The left knob is for setting the distance you wanted pushbacked (you have to use the numbers with your expirience, they havve no special unit. Usually you use something like 5-6 for a pushback from gate to your taxiway).
The knob in the middle is for setting the heading you want to have after pushback. This heading is relative to the current aircraft heading (e.g. if you want to have the nose of your aircraft to the right then you have to set 90° right). You can set it in steps.
The button on the left is for starting the whole action, and the light on the upper left is lighted when the gauge is in "pushback mode".

Before you want to be pushbacked set your heading and distance, then when everything is ready click on the button on the left. Then the gauge starts the pushback procedure with the communication between cockpit and ground. Cockpit and ground are spoken by two good friends, one is Uwe Kress and the other is a real ramper in Duesseldorf, Jan Profe-Bracht, who of course spoke our "virtual-ramper" ;-)

The dialogue is after real Lufthansa procedures.

Cockpit: "Ground from cockpit"
Ground: "Go ahead"
Cockpit: "Ready for pushback"
Ground: "Steering pin inserted and release brakes"

If your parking brakes are set the gauge will wait until you have
released them.

Cockpit: "Brakes are released"

If all engines are off:
Ground: "Pushing back and all engines cleared for startup"

If at least one engine is already running:
Ground: "Pushing back"

Then your pushback will start. It works with slew mode, so center your joysticks or you will be moved somewhere else when the pushback truck lifts the nose gear ( quite realistic to make a pushback with slew mode, doesn't it ).

Then you will be pushed according to the setting of heading and distance you made.
Now you can also start your engines, just like in reality.

After the pushback truck stops and your nose gear is back on ground (=slew mode off ):

Ground: "Set parking brakes"

The gauge waits until you set the parking brakes.

Cockpit: "Parking brakes are set. Prepare aircraft for taxi and give handsignal on left side"
Ground: "Towing system removed. Wait for handsignal on left-hand side"

Now the pushback is completed and the light goes off.

If you want to stop the pushback at any time, just click on the button on the left side again and slew mode goes off an ground asks you for setting the parking brakes immediately.

Now you can close the panelwindow.

During the complete pushback the panelwindow where the pushback gauge is installed MUST be visible, otherwise strange things can happen. This includes also not to look out right or left of your aircraft if the Auto-Full Screen option in View Options is enabled.

FAQ:
~~~~
Q: I can't hear the engines during pushback.
A: That's right. The pushback works with the FS98 slew mode. And when slew mode is on you unfortunately can't hear the FS98 sounds. This can't be fixed.
Q: Can I have a pilot and a ramper without this german accent?
A: You can, just record some wavs yourself. You only have to take care that your wavs are not longer than my original wavs. Then give them the original names and overwrite them.
