Bangkok Scenery

First of all, I want to point out that this scenery is for the city of Bangkok only - it does not make any attempt to cover the airport at all. This is because excellent scenery of Don Muang International Airport already exists. It was created by Naphon Sudprasoert and is available for download at www.SurClaro or www.thaiflight.com. You do not need to download his scenery to use mine, but I strongly recommend that you do.

I will post updates to any scenery I create about once per year, if necessary. Otherwise, you can get updates off my website at http://www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm . I don't see any point in flooding SurClaro with endless postings of the same scenery like some people do.

You might notice that the size of this package is quit large. This is due to the custom textures that I created for some of the objects. I have done my best to keep the file sizes small, but there are so many of them that it can't be helped. I tried using default textures wherever I could but I wanted to make the buildings as realistic as possible.

I wanted to do more work on this scenery before I released it, but I decided to push it out the door before FS2002 came along. There seems to be a fair amount of uncertainty as to how well FS2002 will import FS2K scenery. Also, there will be scenery design tools in FS2002 I think so I wanted to finish this so that I would not have to try to import it into whatever new program I will be using a year from now.

Mostly, I wanted to include a few more buildings, and improve several of the textures, especially the night ones. There are lots of little "mistakes" in my scenery that will not be fixed if FS2K scenery is not supported properly in FS2002.

Framerates

Despite the large number of objects, I am getting decent framerates in my scenery. I get better framerates in downtown Bangkok with all my buildings there than I do at the airport with Aaphon's scenery installed. So, I will use that as my benchmark - I will keep the framerates lower in the city than at the airport.

If you do have problems, you can try lowering the scenery level from "dense" to "normal" and this will cut out many of the buildings.

FSTraffic

I have included FSTraffic files for Bangkok with this package. They will not work with default FS2K scenery - they require the Bangkok airport scenery I mentioned above. The files that you need to download are:

Bkk2000.zip - main files
Bkk2k_up.zip - update #1
Bkk2kup2.zip - update #2

Again, you do not need these files, it is only recommended.

Installation

Unzip to any folder you wish. Make sure "Use folder names" is checked off in Winzip so that the proper directories will be created for you. It should create a directory called "Bkk_city" with subdirectories called "scenery" and "texture". If this doesn't happen for some reason, then just make a new directory called "Bkk_city", and creat sub-directories names "scenery" and "texture", and place all the *.bgl files into the "scenery" subdirectory and all the *.bmp files into the "texture" subdirectory. Go into FS2K and add the scenery in the usual manner. If you don't know how to do this, then RTFM or go to www.SurClaro and there are tutorials that tell you how to do this. Flatten and exclude switches are not required for any of this scenery.

This scenery "probably" requires texture files downloadable from www.SurClaro . Make sure you get the "airport 2.x Textures", "VOD Textures" and "ASD 2.1 Textures". You probably don't need the last two, but really you should have hem anyway.

Thai Flight Simulator
http://www.thaiflight.com/

I strongly recommend that you drop by this site if you are interested in Thailand. He has collected many sceneries for Thailand, most of which were built for FS98, but he also has mesh terrain that he has created and updated FS2K airports for Bangkok, Krabi and Chiang Rai. He obviously has put a lot of work into this.

He also has many aircraft available for download. The B717s created by Apichart Owcharoenporn are especially impressive.

Future Projects

... are on hold until the release of FS2002.

Other crap

This scenery is freeware. You never have to pay to use it. It will always be free from my website at http://www.martinstrong.com/FS_Project.htm . The textures and objects that I have created are copyrighted by me. If you want to use them, just email me at martinstrong@martinstrong.com and I'll be more than happy to let you do this. If you want the original *.api files for any of the objects, just email me and it'll be "no problem". Just remember to give me credit.

I have used some *.api files that I downloaded from the internet - mostly trees and stuff. I have also used standard FS2K buildings and textures as much as possible.
