Engines limitations

Max continuos TGT - 700 degrees Celsium (> 700 not more than 5 minutes)
Max continuos N2 - 98.8% (>98.8% not more than 5 minutes)

EXCEEDING THIS LIMITATIONS CAUSE ENGINES FAILURE!!!

In next sections all engine data applicable to +15 degree celsium, 760 mm hg.

TAXIING

For begin moving use up to 70-75% N2 a short time. Normal taxiing at Idle to 57% N2 depending weight. In turns use 62-65% N2.
Maximum taxiing speed 25 knots and 10 knots in turns.

TAKEOFF

At MTOW

Flaps 10
N2 95-100.5% (more than 98.8, no more 5 min)
Elevator trim +6
Switch landing lights ON.
Flight Director OFF.

At 163 knots up nose about 10 degrees (smoothly stick about 1/2 it move range) and plane will take off at speed about 170-172 knots.

50 feets AGL and positive climb retract gear.
Switch landing lights OFF increase pitch aout 13-15 degrees and engage Autopilot. Initial climb rate 3000 ft/min.
At 200 knots (600-700 feets AGL) retract flaps to 4 degrees.
220 knots (1800-2000 feets AGL) - retract flaps and reduce trottle to 90-92% N2.
Accelerate to 250 knots (due to noise restrictions) and switch on IAS Hold at this speed.
Climb to 10,000 feets at this speed and climb rate.

CLIMBING

At FL100 (after execute noise reduction procedure) switch off IAS Hold, reduce climb rate (about 1500-2000 ft/min) and accelerate to 300 knots at 93-94% N2. When accelerate to 300 knots switch on IAS Hold and increase climb rate to 3000 ft/min.

WARNING!!!
DO NOT USE AUTOTHROTTLE TO ACCELERATE WHILE CLIMBING.

While climbing apply appropriate climb rate (N2 must be between 92% and 95%) to maintain 290-300 knots. When plane reach 0.8M switch on MACH Hold and continue climb at this speed. For econo mode climbing use 92-93% N2 and do not use Autothrottle until reach 0.8M, after 0.8M reaching use MACH Hold and maintane appropriate climb rate (92-93% N2).

Average climbing time (not econo mode) when TKOFF with MTOW

Time to reach FL300 - 13 min. - 9,000 lbs fuel burning
Time to reach FL330 - 16 min. - 10,000 lbs fuel burning
Time to reach FL350 - 19 min. - 11,000 lbs fuel burning
Time to reach FL380 - 23 min. - 12,000 lbs fuel burning
Time to reach FL410 - 27 min. - 13,000 lbs fuel burning
Time to reach FL430 - 31 min. - 13,700 lbs fuel burning

CRUISING

At cruising altitude accelerate to desired speed at 92-94% N2.
On altittude above FL400 speed more than 0.77M

Cruising data see in Info subfolder in main L1011 folder.

DESCENDING

At 40,000 - 44,000 lbs of fuel.

Descend on 0.8M, but IAS shouldn't be more than 300 knots.

Set smoothly throttle to idle. Same time smoothly increase descend rate to -3000 ft/min.
IAS will about 295-300 knots. Below FL250 descend rate -2500 ft/min. Below FL150 set descend rate to 1800-2000 ft/min.

Time to descend from FL350 to 10,000 feets - 11 minutes. Path about 70 NM.

At 10,000 feets set IAS Hold to 240-250 knots wait until speed stabilized and continue desend with 1200-1500 ft/min. At 6000 ft reduce speed to 220 knots and deploy flaps to 4 degrees.

APPROACHING

Typical speed 220 knots flaps 10 degrees. At 200 knots flaps 18 degrees and extend gears.
Descend rate about 1000 ft/min. Before intercept glideslope decrease speed to 160 knots and set flaps to 33 degrees.
When intercept glideslope set speed 145 knots and fully extend flaps.
In glideslope typicaly 70-72% N2 (68-70% in case small weight).

Weight Speed
lbs knots

368,000 145
350,000 143
330,000 140

Optimal pitch 1 degree.

LANDING

At 100 ft AGL disengage autopilot.
At 30 ft AGL smothly up nose to 4-5 degrees set throttle to idle and begin flare.
While flare pitch may increase to 5-6 degrees to maintain -1 -1.5 m/s touchdown speed.
Apply spoilers. After nose gear touchdown activate reversers.
At 90 knots apply breaks.
Reversers off at 60 knots.
Typical touchdown speed = GS Speed - 12-15 knots.
