the Great State of Alaska, and aims to honor the incredible
array of brave pilots whom, in their fragile birds,
made Alaska possible in its early American years.

Warning!
--------
It *IS REQUIRED* that you have dc-3_ddz.zip installed on your system (see below) as the Satchmo makes use of its panel and sounds. Also, the original manual gives you a great insight of how to properly operate this superb flying machine.
It really doesn't make sense to fly her with the default Cessna panel and sounds, but if you still want to use a different setup please edit the panel.cfg and sound.cfg files and point the 'alias' lines to the panel and sounds of your choice.

"The Great Satchmo!" Douglas DC-3
---------------------------------
As far back as I can remember Louis Armstrong's music always made part of my life. Satchmo had that great human quality of spreading sheer joy and peace everywhere around him. Even today, a quick glance to any of his pictures, or a few seconds of any of his marvelous tunes, his trumpet and his voice, still evoke untouched that same feeling that in the 50's Louie filled all the world with.
Being a flightsimmer and a GA enthusiast, a couple of months ago I came across a Notam that New Orleans Intl Airport was about to be renamed as Louis Armstrong New Orleans Intl Airport. Then, at one hot summer night while me and my wife (also a simmer :-) couldn't just get to sleep, the idea of repainting a DC3 in Centennial celebration motives banged on my mind! About an hour later we were gazing at the very first draft of The Great Satchmo DC-3 and we thought it was really something!

I won't say much more other than, while you are here reading and getting ready to install your new bird, dust off one of those vinyl records and put it to play! It will make your day.

The Great Satchmo! is number one in a set of three repaints for Alaskan Winds Air Service. These are already done and will soon be released.

My previous (couple of) repaints can also be found, at least, at SurClaro; just search for 'joao paz' and they'll pop up :-)

To install this file
--------------------
Just unzip it into your main FS2000 folder - with the subfolders option checked. Everything will fall into place. Five promotion screenshots of 'The Great Satchmo!' may be found at this aircraft's main folder.

In your pilots directory you'll find a start-up situation flight:

DC-3 Start-Up Satchmo.FLT

Still, before you load it you should read the instructions on the original DDZ manual about the proper sequence to load the DC3 in all its glory.

A shortened version of it would go like this...

* Close all unnecessary programs before you load FS2000 (EndItAll is a great app for this!)
* Have FS2000 set up to start with the default - and unchanged - Meigs Field flight.
* Turn off the default Cessna engine - use F10 to access the checklists and scroll all the way down to the final instructions.
* Load DC-3 Start-Up Satchmo.FLT

As you'd expect you'll find The Great Satchmo parked at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Intl.
Go fly!
