Flying instructions for Antonov An-24B in MSFS2002

(c) Peter Yashin (piachine@yahoo.com)

General

Antonov An-24B - short-range passenger airliner
Max takeoff weight : 21 tons (52500 lbs)
Max landing weight : 21 tons (52500 lbs)
Cruise speed at FL150 : 450-475 km/h ( 243-256 kts )
Max vertical speed at takeoff : 7.1 m/s
Engines : 2x2550 hp Ivchenko AI-24

Controls

Check that the following controls are bounded to keys (this can be configured in Options/Controls/ menu)
- to open/close the passenger door, press Shift+E
- to open/close the cargo door, press Shift+E and then 2
- to open the cabin windows, press Shift+T (or the key bounded to "raise/lower the hook")
- to deploy/retract landing lights, press / (or the key bounded to the spoiler)

Taxiing

Do not exceed 30 km/h ( 16 kts ) at taxi. Taxi lights are combined with landing lights. They are enabled with navigation lights and when the landing lights are deployed. Use Ctrl+L to switch between landing and taxi lights.

Takeoff

Flaps - to 15° (the first position)
Arm the brakes and raise the throttle briefly to 40%. Then raise to 100% and release the brakes (press ".")
Start to raise the plane at ~87 kts (160 km/h), the takeoff should be at ~100 kts (185 km/h). Keep the pitch approx. 8-9°.
At 114 kts (210 km/h) retract the gear.
At 125 kts (230 km/h) and minimum 120m of altitude raise the flaps.
After raising the flaps, use trimmers and throttle to keep the climbing rate constant and the speed at 162 kts (300 km/h)

Cruising

Cruising speed is ~210 kts (390 km/h) (indicated airspeed) at FL150. This corresponds to approx. 475km/h on ground. The best economical flight altitude is approx 15000 ft (5 km)

Descending

Don't exceed 290 kts (540 km/h) to avoid structure deformation. Normally, descend at approx 240 kts (460 km/h) ground speed and 5 to 10 m/s (900 to 1800 ft/min). Keep 162 kts (300 km/h) on downwind and base legs.

Landing

On the downwind leg, extend the gear. Deploy the flaps to 15° (the first position) and reduce the speed to 130 kts (250 km/h). On the base leg, deploy the flaps to 38° (the second position). Deploy the landing lights if necessary. Keep the speed of approx. 108-110 kts (200-210 km/h) on the final approach. After the touchdown, enable the thrust reverse. Open the cabin windows in order to equilibrate the pressure in- and outside the plane

Maximal values

Maximal speed on descend: 540 km/h (290 kts)
Maximal speed to deploy the gear: 300 km/h (162 kts)
Maximal speed to deploy the flaps to 15°: 300 km/h (162 kts)
Maximal speed to deploy the flaps to 38°: 250 km/h (135 kts)
Minimal speed without armed flaps: 191 km/h (103 kts)
Maximal flight altitude: 26800 ft (8400 m)
Maximal angle of attack: 11.8°
