8S3 - Santiam Junction State Airport, Oregon
Scenery for FS2000
Surrounded by trees and high terrain, Santiam presents an interesting challenge for GA enthusiast looking for something new. With just over 100 operations a year, it should be quiet enough for undisturbed circuit training and cross-country flying. Due to popular request, a broad avenue of trees is included which links Santiam directly to one of my previous sceneries 'Davis Oregon.' Santiam contains a photo-realistic airfield with a large number of trees in the immediate vicinity of the airport, and density setting to make the scenery more accessible.
The airfield will blend in with all texture sets and all seasons, but I strongly recommend the use of the 'Classic America VFR' textures by Bill Lyons, and/or the replacement textures for FS2000 by Lennart Arvidsson. The scenery works best with Eddie Denney's 'Oregon' mesh elevation scenery.
Hope you enjoy it!!

SCENERY COMPLEXITY, VISIBILITY AND OTHER GRAPHIC SETTINGS
GROUND SCENERY SHADOWS MUST BE SWITCHED OFF WHILE USING THIS SCENERY
This scenery takes advantage of options that need to be adjusted through the FS2000 graphic settings menu.
If possible it is recommended that the 'Terrain mesh complexity' be set to 100. This should avoid most of the problems with 'floating' trees. This aesthetic concern needs to be balanced against framerates. Decide for yourself. Either way I think that you'll be pleased.
An improvement in frame rates can be achieved by setting the 'Terrain texture detail distance' to 20-30. Reload the scenery after adjusting this setting or it may have no effect.
The following table present recommendations for 'Scenery complexity' and 'Visibility' options:
Scenery Complexity Visibility
Normal 10-20 Miles
Dense 05-10 Miles
Very Dense 03-05 Miles
Weather setting will greatly impact the speed and density of this scenery. Try different weather settings and see what you think!
These are only recommendations, and the scenery will work with a wide range of settings.
You can get to the airport by using the 'Go To Airport' function. Look for 'Santiam' under 'Scenery from FS95 and before'.
To get to 'Davis,' take off from Santiam and head 296 degrees. Watch your altitude as you head into the mountains!!

Extract all the files to your FS2000 folder. The necessary folders and sub-folders will be created automatically.
The resulting folder structure is as follows:
FS2000 /
ADDON /
Santiam /
Scenery
Texture
You will need to 'add' the scenery using the FS2000 Scenery Library function. Don't forget to use the scenery name 'Santiam'. After that you'll need to open your scenery .cfg file in the FS2000 root directory and copy and paste the following area exclusion text and flatten switch to the entry for 'Santiam'.
The following is ONLY AN EXAMPLE of how the scenery.cfg entry for Santiam MIGHT look.
The area number; layer number and directory path may be different
