INSTALLATION:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FS2000 users only:

YOU MUST HAVE THE DEFAULT FS2000 BOEING 737-400 AND THE CONCORDE INSTALLED IN ORDER FOR THIS PANEL TO WORK.

THE LATEST VERSION OF "FSUIPC.dll" SHOULD BE INSTALLED IN YOUR FS2000\Modules FOLDER FOR THE EGT AND EPR GAUGES TO WORK. THIS CAN BE DOWNLOADED FROM SurClaro

IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED "cf727pnl.zip" (VERSION 1), OPEN YOUR "GAUGES" FOLDER AND DELETE ALL THE GAUGES THAT BEGIN WITH "cf727". THIS IS NOT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY BUT THIS WILL GIVE YOU A 'CLEANER" INSTALLATION AND SAVE DISK SPACE. IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THIS STEP, OVERWRITE ALL EXISTING "cf727*.gau" FILES WHEN PROMPTED!

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL ANY KEVIN TRINKLE OR DAVID RANDOLPH 727-200 MODEL IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE SO. THERE ARE MANY 727-200'S AVAILABLE TO CHOOSE FROM AT SurClaro.

1) Unzip the contents of this ZIP file to a temporary folder.

2) Copy the contents of the "gauges" folder to the FS2000\Gauges folder. If a windows message asks you to overwrite the "Magnetic Compass" or "GPS" gauges, click "NO".

3) Copy the contents of unizipped "Sound" folder to the FS2000\Sound folder (NOT THE AIRCRAFT SOUND FOLDER). If a windows message asks you to overwrite any existing sound files, determine which sound file you like more before over-writing the existing file (the AC sound contained in this file is "softer" and quieter than most freeware AC sounds).

4) After determining which 727 panel to install (choose either the 727 Analog Panel or the 727 Digital Panel - NOT BOTH), open the unzipped "727 Analog Panel" folder or the "727 Digital Panel" folder and move the "panel" folder that is contained in either one into the 727 aircraft folder where you are installing the panel. Be sure to replace the existing "panel" folder that exists in the aircraft folder (each aircraft folder contains "Model", "Panel", "Sound" and "Texture" folders - completely replace the "Panel" folder).

5) Open the "Airfile" folder and find the file named "727-200Adv.air". Determine the name of the existing AIR file in the 727 aircraft folder you are installing this panel into. Rename the "727-200Adv.air" file the SAME as the existing, default AIR file, and move the renamed "727-200Adv.air" file into your 727 aircraft folder - overwriting the existing AIR file (i.e.: I use David Randolph's American Airlines 727-200 Advanced model. The default AIR file that came with that aircraft is called "727.air" - and this file can be found in the 727 Aircraft folder. Rename "727-200Adv" to "727.air" and move the new "727.air" into your aircraft folder - overwriting the old "727.air" file). This AIR file must be installed in order for the EPR gauges to work.

6) You may delete or keep the remaining *.JPG files as they are not needed.

7) Start FS2000 and enjoy the panel.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) The autopilot (727 Analog Panel):

MODE SEL: selects the mode of the autopilot.

BUG: holds heading where the HSI orange bug is located.
NAV1: tracks nav1 course when NAV/GPS switch in NAV. tracks GPS waypoints when NAV/GPS switch in GPS.
APR: ILS localizer and glideslope.
BACK: ILS back course.

PITCH CMD:

ALT: climbs/descends aircraft to altitude selected.
A/S: pitch command off
PITCH CMD ARROW: climb/descent rate (each tick is about 1800ft/min)

AS/AP/AT:

IAS: holds indicated airspeed where the orange airspeed bug is located on the airspeed gauge when AT switch is in ARM position.
OFF: holds mach speed selected in MACH readout when AT switch is in ARM position.
MACH: mach speed readout for current altitude/speed (SEE "OFF" ABOVE).
AP: autopilot master switch
AT: auto throttle ARM/OFF switch

2) The warning lights:

GPWS: comes on only if the aircraft is 1) DESCENDING 2) below 1000
feet AGL with 3) the gear up. It extinguishes as soon as the gear is
lowered or you initiate a climb. This light does not work when over
mountains. Excessive sink rate below 2500 will also trigger the light.

BELOW GLIDESLOPE: comes on if 1) more than one dot below the glide-
slope AND 2) altitude is less than 1000 feet AGL. Light is disabled
below 50 feet AGL.

MASTER CAUTION: comes on during emminent stall or overspeed or if YAW DAMPER is ON with 30 degrees or more flaps.

AUTOPILOT DISENGAGED: comes on when the autopilot is 1) disarmed
2) above 400 feet AGL. Extinguishes when the autopilot is armed or the
light is pushed in.

CONFIGURATION WARNING: if this light comes on, you've put the airplane
in a dangerous or illogical configuration:

a) speed brake extended with throttle more than 20% advanced.
b) flaps greater than 15 with climb power (or greater) set.
c) gear down above 270 kts.
d) flaps extended above 230 kts.
e) flaps less than 15, in a descent, at less than 160 kts.
f) speed less than 135 with the gear up.
g) flaps greater than 15 with the gear up.

YAW DAMPER OFF: illuminates when the yaw dampers are off and airspeed
is above 250 kts.

OUT OF TRIM: this light and accompanying digital trim gauge are
modeled from real 727 stabilator trim setting tables. The warning
light lets you know when you are out of trim, and it is affected
by the flap settings. 2-3-4 is the normal range.

DECISION HEIGHT: comes on when descending through the altitude set
on the radio altimeter, whether it is on or off.

LOW FUEL: comes on when down to 6750 pounds of fuel, the 45 minute IFR
reserve.

LOW OIL PRESSURE: self explanatory, but normally on when the engines are shut down.

ALTITUDE ALERT: illuminates when +/- 700 to 300 feet to altitude set in
the altitude alert control head.

3) Fuel panel:

Gauges indicate tank volume in 1/4 increments.

4) Known Problems:

ILLEGAL FILE OPERATION ERROR MESSAGE UPON EXITING FS2000, OR MINIMIZING SCREEN:

You may receive a "KERNEL32.dll" or "COMCTL32.dll" error if you default start FS2K with this panel. To minimize these errors, default start FS2K with a default FS2K aircraft (such as the Boeing 737 or Cessna).

If you use a third-party add on such as FSMeteo, start FSMeteo with another aircraft before switching to this panel. I have spent many hours trying to figure out why this occurs without any success. Generally speaking, almost all file errors can be avoided if you start all your third-party programs (such as FSMeteo) BEFORE loading the 727 panel.

THANKS TO:

Richard Probst, who provided his generous assistance and permission in the re-building of this panel. Rich took time out of his busy schedule to help me re-configure this panel for FS2000 and offered several tips and fixes during the design.

Chris Arrington, who is the creator of the original bitmaps used in this design. Chris provided me his generous permission and support early in this project.

My real-life pilot friend, Foerster, who flew 727's for American Airlines before retiring in 1998. Foerster explained what each warning light and gauge did in detail and was a tremendous help in the design.

TERMS OF USE:

This panel is FREEWARE. You may distribute it freely provided that no money
is charged for it and that the original zip remains intact. It may not be
distributed by CD or disk. You may put it on web pages that do not charge a
download fee without asking further permission.

Please do not use any of these gauges in your panels. They are designed to
work together and have hidden functions that may cause lockups and other
problems if used separately. Thanks.

FINAL NOTE ON THE DESIGN:

The 727 Analog Panel was built using American Airlines 727-222 Advanced panel photos. Other airlines may have slightly different configurations. The photos used are from 1999 to present-day. American still uses the 727 on many of it's routes and it seems the 727 will be around for several more years. This panel was tested on a Kevin Trinkle/Sam Chin 727-200 model for several hours without any problems except those noted in the "Known Problems" section.

I recommend David Randolph repaints of Trinkle's original 727-200's. David's repaints are the best available anywhere.

The 727 Digital Panel was included to provide flightsimmers with an easier panel to operate for beginners. To my knowledge, the 727 Digital DOES NOT represent any realistic 727 in use today.

Hundreds of hours went into the design of these panels over the period of several months. If you like the panels - let me know. If you don't - let me know that too! :-)
