FS2000/FS98 Convair 240/340/440 with Moving Parts
a "FREEWARE" file
Version 4 5/2000
**********************************************************
Unzip into your FS2000 AIRCRAFT folder using the "stored folders"
option of your unzip program.

Made for use with the Twin Propliner Panel v4.

This is only usable in FS98 or FS2000.

Built and painted by Tom Gibson, tgibson@sunstroke.sdsu.edu

Flight dynamics by Mike Vidal, modified by Tom Gibson for FS98

Moving parts by Aircraft Animator.

IF YOU USE THE TWIN PROPLINER PANEL V4 you will need to edit the panel.cfg
file in this aircraft's PANEL folder or the plane may not appear in the Select Aircraft
menu. Just replace the current alias= line with the alternate line (i.e. remove the //).

This plane has animated landing gear, flaps, props, and door. The main and nose
gear extend at different times, similar to the real plane. The flaps are
"Fowler" flaps, that extend backwards as well as rotate down.

The props can be started quite realistically using the TWIN PROPLINER PANEL
V4 (make sure you have Auto Mixture Control unchecked in Aircraft/Realism),
or you can do it manually:
1. fuel off with Ctrl-Shift-F1
2. select desired engine (i.e press E2 for engine 2)
3. turn the magneto to start (M+++) and hold it down
4. the prop will rotate; wait for 6 blades
5. fuel on with Ctrl-Shift-F4; let go of all keys
6. repeat 2-5 for other engine(s)

This plane also has FS98 landing lights (Cntrl-L).

CHECKLISTS

Included are Before Starting Engines, Starting Engines, Engine Run-up,
Before Takeoff, Takeoff Data (V speeds), Climb, Cruise, Before Landing,
and After Landing. The best spot to stash the checklist is in the upper
left corner, except on landing. Then put it on the left edge of the panel
just above the radar, and just to the left of the flight instruments.
Enjoy! Thanks to John Anderson for the checkedit program, which makes
editing checklists easy (available as chke11.zip from www.SurClaro).

ANIMATED DOOR

The door is animated; use the / key to open/close it. I didn't think that moving
control surfaces were worth the incredible effort to re-section the wings and tail.

Installation:

DO NOT USE THE CONVERTER ON THIS PLANE; IT IS ALREADY IN FS2000 FORMAT

XXX = Aircraft/airline code. For the United CV-340, the code is 340UAL.

Replace [FS2000] in the paths above with the location of your FS2000
installation (the folder that has fltsim98.exe in it). Any other files
are not needed to fly the plane.

1. If you use an unzipper that keeps stored folders intact, just move
the 340XXX folder (and it's contents) to the FS2000 AIRCRAFT folder.

1a. If not, create all the folders listed above, and move the files
into the specified folders.

Convair, which is a contraction of Consoldated-Vultee Aircraft,
was located in San Diego (the home of the Classic Airliner
Page), and produced the B-24 Liberator and the B-36 Peacemaker,
among other famous planes. The Convair-Liner project started
with the CV-110 prototype, but American convinced Convair to
alter it into the CV-240. Convair wanted American's order for
50 aircraft, and took a large loss on the order which CR Smith
eventually allowed to be reduced to allow Convair to sell the
planes at a profit. Other US operators included Western, Pan
Am, Continental, and Northeast. After the aborted negotiations
with TWA and Eastern for a "Super 240", Convair realized that
airlines were not going to accept their current offering, and
in response to a United inquiry, developed a plane very similar
to the cancelled Super 240, and called it the CV-340. United
took 55, and more US orders came from Braniff, Continental,
Delta, Northeast, and National. The CV-340 earned an enviable
reputation for reliability and profitability, and was also
popular in South America. The final piston-powered development
of the Convair-Liner was the CV-440 Metropolitan, which was 5
mph faster and quieter than the CV-340. Although a fine
aircraft, most sales were made overseas, and especially in
Europe. In the US, Continental, National, Braniff, Delta, and
Eastern all had small fleets.

Mike Vidal's Flight Report

Takeoff: Rotation speed (Vr) is at 100 knots, with liftoff
(V2) at 105 to 110. Climb out at around 130 to 140 knots.

Landing: Approach is best at 115 to 120 knots, full flapss and
gear down.
