FS2000 Martin 202/404 with Moving Parts
a "FREEWARE" file
Version 4 4/2000 (FS98 Compatible)
**********************************************************
Unzip into your FS2000 (FS98) AIRCRAFT folder using the "stored folders"
option of your unzip program.

Made for use with the Twin Propliner Panel v4.

This is only usable in FS98 or FS2000. Do not convert the files, although
for FS98 the Converter must be installed.

Built and painted by Tom Gibson, tgibson@sunstroke.sdsu.edu and Dave McQueen

Flight dynamics by Mike Vidal, modified by Tom Gibson for FS98

I'd like to thank Keith Waugh, Mike Vidal, and
Rich Boehringer for their help with this project.

Aircraft built in Aircraft Factory 99, moving parts by Aircraft Animator.

IF YOU USE THE TWIN PROPLINER PANEL V4 you will need to edit the panel.cfg
file in this aircraft's PANEL folder or the plane may not appear in the Select Aircraft
menu. Just replace the current alias= line with the alternate line (i.e. remove the //).

This plane has animated landing gear, flaps, props, and door.

The props can be started quite realistically using the TWIN PROPLINER PANEL
V4 (make sure you have Auto Mixture Control unchecked in Aircraft/Realism),
or you can do it manually:
1. fuel off with Ctrl-Shift-F1
2. select desired engine (i.e press E2 for engine 2)
3. turn the magneto to start (M+++) and hold it down
4. the prop will rotate; wait for 6 blades
5. fuel on with Ctrl-Shift-F4; let go of all keys
6. repeat 2-5 for other engine(s)

This plane also has FS98 landing lights (Cntrl-L).

CHECKLISTS

Included are Before Starting Engines, Starting Engines, Engine Run-up,
Before Takeoff, Takeoff Data (V speeds), Climb, Cruise, Before Landing,
and After Landing. The best spot to stash the checklist is in the upper
left corner, except on landing. Then put it on the left edge of the panel
just above the radar, and just to the left of the flight instruments.
Enjoy! Thanks to John Anderson for the checkedit program, which makes
editing checklists easy (available as chke11.zip from www.SurClaro).

ANIMATED DOOR

The door is animated; use the / key to open/close it. I didn't think that moving
control surfaces were worth the incredible effort to re-section the wings and tail.

Installation:

DO NOT USE THE CONVERTER ON THIS PLANE; IT IS ALREADY IN FS2000 FORMAT

[Files] belongs in:

XXX = Aircraft/airline code. For the Pacific M404, the code is 404PAL2K.

Replace [FS2000] in the paths above with the location of your FS2000
(FS98) installation (the folder that has fltsim98.exe in it). Any other files
are not needed to fly the plane.

1. If you use an unzipper that keeps stored folders intact, just move
the 340XXX folder (and it's contents) to the FS2000 (FS98) AIRCRAFT folder.

1a. If not, create all the folders listed above, and move the files
into the specified folders.

************************************************************************

After WW II, several manufacturers began work on a DC-3
replacement for short hauls. The early leader in the race was
Martin, with it's 2-0-2 flying several months before any
competitor. Northwest Airlines launched 2-0-2 service in
November 1947, and it proved to be a popular aircraft until the
cause of a 1948 crash was found to be structural fatigue in the
major wing spar. The planes were then withdrawn for rebuilding
and re-engining, and the airlines had a change of heart and
ordered the competing Convair CV-240 instead. The 2-0-2's
successor, the improved and pressurized 3-0-3, was cancelled
and it looked like Martin was out of the airliner business.
However, they fought back with an even more improved model, the
4-0-4. Most airlines were committed to Convair by then,
however, and sales prospects looked slim.

TWA and Eastern at the time were negotiating with Convair for
an improved plane, the "Super 240". However, when TWA and
Eastern officials came to the Convair plant in San Diego to
sign the preliminary papers, they were informed that the
project was summarily cancelled, and that they would have to
buy stock CV-240's! Orders were soon placed with Martin for
101 4-0-4's for the two airlines, although those ended up being
the only ones sold to airline customers. The 4-0-4 proved to
be as popular as the competing Convair-Liners, and they served
their owners well. After being sold to numerous second tier
airlines, they proved to have a remarkably long lifespan,
although they didn't go through the turboprop metamorphosis of
the Convair series. Almost (?) all 4-0-4's have been retired
or are on the airshow circui (one even painted into Pacific
colors, my old hometown airline!).
