Kirknewton airfield . . . . fs2002 only.

This scenery is intended for use with UKMESH2 by Pietro Mauri.

Installation;

Create a directory off your SCENERY directory called Kirknewton.
Next create two sub directories off this one called SCENERY and TEXTURE.

Then . .

Unzip texture.zip into the newly created texture directory.
Unzip scenery.zip into the newly created scenery directory.
Unzip tex.zip into your main FS Texture directory.
Unzip file ec-kn.bgl into directory ..\FS2002\SCENERY\

Next . .

Update the scenery library from the Settings Menu within FS2002.

What You Get:
Kirknewton Airfield is situated to the South of the village of Kirknewton, South West of Edinburgh International Airport. Almost all the WW2 buildings are now gone and 2 of the 3 original runways are seriously broken up and overgrown with grass in places. The remaining buildings, 2 brick-ended Blisters, 2 hangars and a cluster of portacabins remain at the NW corner of the field. Only 1 runway (06/24), a mere 900m!, is still active and used by gliders
from 661 ATC Squadron and the occasional light aircraft. Use of the runway is controlled in conjunction with Edinburgh ATC. I have included an AFD file, but I have listed the 'City' as Kirknewton (NOT Edinburgh) to avoid confusion with Edinburgh when using AI ATC. The Inclusion of the AFD file enables programs such as FS Navigator to display the appropriate information on the map.

This scenery uses seasonal ground textures. However I cannot get Hard-Winter textures to display,
so you will have to do without snow. Some of the bulding textures are from photographs. Although the 2 blisters are different in reality, mine are identical. Also, I had a hard time making the texture fit the model, so please excuse the slight 'squint' on one end. (after all, this is all about flying . . . . not driving about on the ground!)

There are no lights of any sort, so be careful at night! And watch out when approaching from the West, where the ground rises. You may have to approach at tree height if your stalling speed is greater than 100kts!

The windsock will indicate the appropriate wind direction and will hang at different angles to the pole according to the wind strength (thanks guys!).

For enhanced VFR flying, I have added the B7031 which runs along the West end of the field and links the A71 and the A70. I have also re-routed the A70 at the point where it intersects with the B7031. Here I encountered a 'funny', where part of the B7031 and A70 will consistantly refuse to display. Consequentially, I have had to use Airport to fill in the missing road, to the effect that it is darker than the Microsoft road. Just tell people that it has been re-surfaced! John Cillis's Landclass Assistant was used to add the villages of East Calder and Kirknewton, adding to the VFR experience.
