ABOUT THE AIRPORT:

Beaver Municipal is a small airport located in Beaver, Ok. It has 2 runways, one asphalt and the other grass. There is no fuel, maintenence nor attendents. The airport is publicly owned by the City of Beaver. Coordinates: 36-47-56.0930N/100-31-47.5350W ( 36.79891/-100.52987) Located 1 mile SW of Beaver, Oklahoma. Surveyed Elevation is 2491 feet MSL.[1]

Airport Operational Statistics:[2]

Aircraft based on the field: 4
Single engine airplanes: 4

Aircraft operations: avg 29/week *
Local general aviation 67%
Transient general aviation 33%

* for 12-month period ending 24 May 2005

Author's note: The FAA code for Beaver Municipal used to be Q44. FS9 still uses that code, however the new FAA code is now K44. All files reference the new code, while the ai sequence references the old code. The AF2_xxx file also references the old code of Q44.

ABOUT THE SCENERY:

I chose Beaver because it is a small airport that wouldn't take too much time to complete. The main purpose was to try out some new stuff I learned and some new ideas (at least for me), in scenery design. I must, without any doubt, credit David "Opa" Marshall for inspiring, teaching and working with me on these techniques.

This scenery features the "forward taxi" departure technique. I think different airports call for different approaches to this technique as I couldn't get the format to work until I had all of the inbound paths further away from the runway and the outbound paths closer to the runway. In my last scenery, Dillingham, there was a mixture where the outbound worked when furthest from the runway on one side of the field and was closest on the other side.

There is also an ai plane pulling a banner. This time the banner is much larger and is seen "flying" just below the level of the aircraft. This depicts the heavy weight and the drag of the banner. Also, the banner is transparent as seen in real lift. I am including the aircraft with this download.

In real life there is not much there at the airport, at least according to the little information available on the web. I added a fuel station, maintenence hangar, etc to bring more life to the facility. In other words, I took a lot of artistic license.

Have fun with this small airport. Happy landings!

Scenery Libraries:

Here is a list of the libraries I used for this scenery. However, I recommend you look at the list following this one and download the libraries you do not have.

lsigns_2.zip* ez_ga_hangers_ss.zip
hangers.zip ezhangers.zip
ramplit3.zip ez-extra-objects-1.zip
lens_ez_scenery.zip lens_ez_scenery_textures.zip ez-extra-objects-1-textures.zip my_peeps.zip
rwy12_lib1_v1.2.zip(rwy12) rwy12_lib2_v1.2.zip(rwy12)
ga_planes_1.zip

NOTE: Those zip files that are more than 8 characters long can be downloaded from SurClaro.com. SurClaro restricts the zip names to 8 characters.
*These zip files are included with this dowmload. They are installed in the same manner as the scenery. If it asks about overwriting, do so.

EZ SCENERY OBJECTS FILE LIST....

This is a compiled list of scenery object files that can be used in FS2004 with sceneries that require EZ-Scenery Objects.. These files can be found at the AVSIM Files Library... Many are also availible at FlightSim..

The list by Ray Lunning and John Loney gives the name of the author and the File name.. I have downloaded each of these to my EZ Objects Library and can verify that they are current and availible...

There are many more EZ Objects Files availible.. We have just listed those which We have downloaded and which are the most commonly used..

You "DO NOT" need to have the ABACUS EZ-SCENERY or the RWY12 programs installed to use the objects...However, you will need most if not all of these files when you download Airport sceneries that use these objects... I have created an EZ Objects Library folder in my FS9\Addon Scenery folder..All the *.bgl, *.xml and *.txt files must be placed in a "Library" Scenery folder and all the *.bmp files must be placed in a "Library" Texture folder...

ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT:

The AI aircraft in this scenery are default aircraft except for the Cessna 182R RG Skylane. This aircraft/Banner is included with this download. When you start the scenery, set the time at 15:10:00 GMT to start the ai cycle.

THANKS TO:

David "Opa" Marshall for his inspiration and help on the "forward departure" technique and the Banner idea.

INSTALLATION:

Author's Note:

After receiving many emails, I find that I am a little off the beaten path. My FS file structure is not the default setup. So as you read these instructions, keep in mind that most of the files will work from anywhere as long as FS knows where they are. If your file structure is C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\ it's ok. Just place or check to verify that certain files are in certain folders. I will refer to the above structure as the DEFAULT FILE STRUCTURE, and the following file structure as MY FILE STRUCTURE. Which is: D:\fs2004\ and my scenery files are in D:\fs2k4_scenery\.
I have it this way because I've also done scenery for fs2002 and I didn't want to get the two versions mixed up. (Bet'cha can't guess what the folder name for the fs2002 scenery is). So in explaining where the files go, I'll try not to confuse anyone, but if I do, please contact me for clarification.

AFTER UNZIPPING THE FILE k44_v1.ZIP TO A TEMPORARY FOLDER, HOPEFULLY, YOU ARE READING THIS README FILE.

If you don't have them already, download Lee Swordy's Traffic Tools v2x and AFCAD2x. Follow the instructions from the files and install them onto your system. While you're at it, download the texture files necessary for this scenery and put them into the main FS texture folder. They are: ASDv2.1, Nova, Nova Gold and NovaSim textures, plus my own custom textures. All are available for free at my website, www.lfssd.net (the "l" is an L, not a one). You also should download Rwy12 objects/textures. You don't need the complete Rwy12 program. (See the Rwy12 open letter on SurClaro or SurClaro.com search file rwy12_-_open_letter.zip). As mentioned above, you can get the EZ Scenery libraries/textures from Abacus' website at http://www.abacuspub.com/pub/AbacusEZLibraries.exe.(See Scenery Libraries above for specific library files)

Using the folders switch, unzip the file k44scen.zip to a temporary folder.

You should have the following:
fs2k4_scenery\K44
FS2004\LAGO\FSE\Data\xxx.se2
\Common\Tracks\xxx.osc
\Addon Scenery\Loney's Signs_2
\Aircraft\Cessna 182R RG Skylane Beaver Muni

Now:
1. move the K44 folder (and the subfolders) to wherever you keep your addon scenery.
2. For you Lago users, move the xxx.se2 and xxx.osc files to their proper folder under the LAGO main folder.
3. Move the Loney's Signs_2 folder to wherever you keep your addon scenery.
4. Move the Cessna 182R RG Skylane Beaver Muni folder into the FS9 aircraft folder

Activating the scenery in FS9:

1. Start FS
2. At the Menu, select Settings
3. Then select Scenery Library
4. Select Add Area
5. Go to where you have the scenery folder and just open the folder ie; (K44) Then click OK
6. Set the priority using the "D" Key or the Move Down button or the "U" Key or the Move Up Button
7. Click OK
8. Close FS and re-start
9. At the menu select "Select a Flight"
10. Scroll down to a flight, hightlight and click FLY NOW
11. Go to the World drop down menu at the top of the screen (If you are in the Windows setting) and click. If you are in the Full Screen setting, press the ALT key for the drop down menu bar. Then click on World. Next click on Go To Airport. Select United States, California, Camarillo Airport and the parking space, then click OK.
12. Select you aircraft you want to fly.
13. Change the time of day (GMT) to the time mentioned above in the "About the Aircraft" section and save the flight.
Now go fly.

Happy landings!
