About the Pilatus porters in the IAF
===========================================
The Israeli Air force purchased it's first Pilatus Turbo Porter on 1962. It was registered 4X-SVV, and had the IAF designation 02.
The aircraft was a PC-6A, not exactly the FSD model. It had a Turbomeca ASTAZU engine, not the P&W engine the PC-6B has.
The airplane served as a light transport, and was used where short landings on any terrain was needed.
The Porter was based at Sde Dov's light squadron, and it is said that Air force Commander and future president of Israel, Ezer Weizman, loved it, and even conducted staff meetings in it.
The plane crashed in an accident and the IAF purchased a second Porter, registered 4X-SVY (also designated only as "02").
There is a story about Golda Meir, Israel's PM, refusing to board the "big piper".
The Porter was retired at 1973, and is now displayed at the IAF museum in Hatzerim AFB.
