British Aerospace Harrier GR Mk 3 in desert colors. For Fs98 with converter. Copyright by Bill Lyons, March.1998 Use WORD WRAP

This model portrays one of the many Harrier variants and as such has a very wide speed envelope. It will ascend almost vertically fly at high speed and land completely vertically. It has an optional pilot, opening canopy, working strobe, retractable gear and working landing lights. Specifications are on the fs98 aircraft menu.

Installation: Using explorer move the harrier4 folder to the aircraft directory in your converted fs98 installation. That's it you're done. When you boot up you should be able to select the harrier from your menu. As presented the panel selected is the Lear which is ok to test fly the plane but if you want to fly much I would advise obtaining and using one of the many great jet fighter panels coming out on the net. The Lear sound actually isn't too far from a Harrier but you have to turn the speakers up. They do howl.

Operation: Before starting the engine hit the / key and in a second or two the pilot will get aboard. Now use control/F4 and J+ to start the engine. The boarding ladder will be removed. After the usual embarrassing jet jump settles down apply full flap to direct the jet thrust straight down. Apply full throttle and the bird will roll slightly forward and lift off. Hit G to retract the gear. Retard the throttle slightly to float along at 10ft agl. Increase to full throttle and release one notch of flap to gain airspeed and climb. Some gentle turns can be done using lots of rudder at this setting. One more notch(now at 8 degrees) and the airplane controls start to become effective so you can fly around at very slow speeds. Dump the last notch and hang on! All that power comes in and the plane will accelerate like a missle to it's top end. You can back off and try to observe the 250kn under 10,000ft law but it's too much fun blasting around the sky! Point the nose up and it will climb to it's 50,000ft ceiling in short order. Now comes the fun part: getting back on the ground. Make your normal approach to the airport, buzzing the tower at 500kn! I guarantee no Fs98 ATC will ground you. After this, lower the gear and go around. This will slow you way down. Pick your landing spot, like the fuel square for example. Begin a normal descent at about 50kn toward the spot. As you approach apply one notch of flap. Your speed will be further diminished. The canopy will open for visibility as in full scale practise. You probably will have to add throttle to stay up. You can now slowly fly over your intended landing area. Apply more flap and throttle to slow down. When you are over the spot and the plane is level cut the throttle. It will descend vertically to a soft touch down. Whew!! Like the real Harrier it WILL stall and crash so beware of getting too slow with throttle applied or it will tip over and fall out of the air. With some practice take offs which are easy and landings, a little more fun, will become routine. Strobes are activated using the O key and landing lights are turned on using control/L.
