SAAB SAFARI MFI-15

This aircraft is a 2-place trainer and has frequently been used by the air forces of Norway, Pakistan, etc. When I worked for Teledyne Continental Motors in the 90s, a model known as "Mushak" was borrowed from the Pakistani air force to see if the Lycoming engine could be replaced with a Continental IO-360. The project was completed but never went anywhere. However, I did get a ride in the plane and handled the controls for a while. I enjoyed working on the plane and liked its looks, especially the canopy and the forward visibility. There was one available for FS98 or FS2000, but I haven't seen one since then.

PANEL

There is no 2d panel- that is why you will see a blank screen. There are none available that I know of, so you will have to make your own or use one of the default panels. My suggestion is to forget the 2d panel entirely and just fly from the virtual cockpit (VC). I tried to make the interior as realistic and functional as possible given my current level of skills and the information that I could find.

Default gauges and switches are used. A window for the default radio panel and gps can be called up with key strokes. The stick, rudders, canopy, canopy lock, and cargo doors are animated. A flap handle has been placed between the seats, since the photographs that I have been able to find do not show a flap lever on the panel.

FLYING INSTRUCTIONS

The air file is basically the default C182 with the necessary adjustments for contact points, etc. I aslo adjusted the pitch behavior which somehow changed between the FS2002 and FS2004 versions. The plane should be easy to fly, as the real one is. I did not include a checklist but I added the most important information to the Reference page of the kneeboard.

Ground handling is a little touchy, at least on my computer which is not very fast. Try as I might, I could not adjust it out. Part of the problem is that the wide view of the runway exaggerates the speed on the ground. If anyone finds a way to improve the steering, let me know.

CREDITS

The paint scheme is based on a photograph found on the web. Several photos and diagrams of various details including the panel were also found on the web. The pilot figure, as in my other models, originally came from Dave Eckert. Sounds are default C182.

This plane may be distributed freely provided it remains Freeware and credit is given. You may make the following modifications without asking and upload to any website: (1) repaints or other texture modifications, (2) modifications to the panel cfg file, (3) modifications to the aircraft cfg file. Just give credit. Anything else, please ask.

I almost always respond to email, but please reference the airplane in the subject line so that I won't delete it.
