KSAT SAN ANTONIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CIRCA 1972 Scenery for FS2004 ONLY

History as I remember it:

In 1968, the World's Fair came to San Antonio. "Hemisfair" brought more than
international acclaim and my first beer (drinking age was 18 in Texas during the Viet Nam era).
Significant improvements were made in the airport with the addition of a new baggage claim area
on the west side of Terminal 2 and a jetway'd satellite for Braniff and American.
Runway extensions and new taxiways were prominant. In late 1971, after a long legal battle, Southwest Airlines
began its first flights between Dallas Love Field and San Antonio utilizing what appeared to me a bare-bones
makeshift terminal building on the east side of KSAT (they used the former American jetways at Love Field).
Living in San Antonio at the time, I could make it to my parents' house near Dallas for
the weekend by putting pedal to metal in about 4-4.5 hours. But Southwest began offering their last flight
of the week Friday night KSAT to KDAL for $18 first come, first serve, cash only, no checked baggage.
(Getting back Sunday night rquired a Braniff "red-eye" on which, once, I was the only passenger).
At about 8pm on Friday night, the empty Southwest building would develop a line of passengers.
A spanking new 737 in Desert Gold and orange livery would taxi up. As the deplaning passengers passed by,
a wise-cracking, hot pants outfitted flight attendant would man the old cash register, take the money,
and send you to the captain who took your ticket (the cash register receipt) at the gate and you boarded
while the first officer did the walk around. Famous for the "ten minute turnaround" it was not a leisurely
time. After startup the taxi was brief and fast to Rwy 3 for a straight shot to Dallas.

This scenery builds on the previously released KSAT San Antonio International Airport circa 1966
by adding the new runways, taxiways, the terminal 2 satellite, and the Southwest "terminal" building.
The Swearingen aircraft factory is included as are other additions (and the default Tower of the Americas
is returned to its proper place.) A Dennis Waggoner animated hangar is available to park your aircraft
(west side near the fire station).

REQUIREMENTS:
This scenery requires The following free downloadable libraries for some things to show up:

1. EZ Scenery libraries (David Grindele's all-inclusive available for free download
at SurClaro ez_1.zip)
2. CalClassic Core library (www.calclassic.com)
3. Runway 12 libraries (SurClaro rw12l112.zip, rw12l212.zip, rw12l312.zip)

INSTALLATION:
1. Download the ksat_circa1972.zip file to a temporary folder and extract all the files.
2. Place or copy the entire folder "KSAT San Antonio International Airport circa 1972" into the FS2004/Addon Scenery folder.
3. Place or copy the entire folder "Static Objects Library" into the FS2004/Addon scenery folder.(If you already have
a static objects folder, the files should be placed in the respective scenery/ texture folders within it.
Click "yes" to overwrite any previous files).
4. Turn on Flight Simulator 2004
5. At the main menu, click on and open the SETTINGS button.
6. Under "Scenery" click on and open the "Scenery Library"
7. Click on "Add Area", then navigate to "Addon Scenery". Double click to open, select "Static Objects Library" folder,

11. Click "OK" button and exit /close Flight Simulator. The next time you fly, the airport should be in place.
12. IMPORTANT: If you have KSAT 1966 installed DO NOT run both together! Make sure ONLY one of these two sceneries
is clicked "on" in the scenery library of Flight Simulator 2004.

SPECIAL NOTES:
1. Make sure any other AFCAD or AFX files for KSAT are removed or turned off lest strange things happen at the airport.
They are usually in the FS2004/ Addon Scenery/ scenery folder labelled AF2_KSAT or AFX_KSAT or something similar.
2. Turn off any previous KSAT scenery folders in the FS2004 Scenery Library window (described above).
3. Although the AFCAD supplied is very realistic visually to the 1971 and '73 aerial views of the airport, FS2004 will
not allow deletion or modification of stock Nav aids such as ILS markers etc, at least at my level of sophistication
in scenery development! SO, the stock nav aids will still appear on the MAP view, and the glideslopes for the
ILS runways may be somewhat off.
BE CAREFUL out there flying.
4. Modification of the AFCAD for personal use or distribution is strongly encouraged (if it's for free).
If anyone has better information on gate location, numbers, and assignments, fix and publish it!
5. You can turn off the airport by going to settings/scenery library and unchecking the enabled boxes.
6. ALWAYS make backup copies in separate folders of anything you remove or replace so you can restore your originals if you wish.
