HOUSTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CIRCA 1965 Scenery for FS2004 ONLY

Recreated from old postcards and photos of the period, plus my own faulty memory
of childhood visits to the observation deck, this model features Houston International
Airport around 1965 before it was named for Texas governor William Hobby. Included
are the old Houston Municipal Airport Terminal and Continental hangar on the west side
of the airport. Buildings were made with Google Sketchup and converted with Model Converter X
(probably one of the most valuable tools out there! Thanks!). I added a cargo area near the
old municipal terminal as well. The beautiful old art deco municipal terminal is now an air
museum, so park a few old static aircraft out front.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND installing Classic AI traffic 1962 from California Classics http://www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htm
These wonderful airliners and flight plans demanded a terminal to go with them, hence the inspiration
for the project. TTA Convairs are there as are Eastern 707s.
Historic Jetliners Group (http://simviation.com/hjg/main.htm) makes a beautiful Continental Golden Jet Boeing 720B
that looks great parked on the ramp. Flies great, too!
The two international flyers were Pan Am and KLM. I added a spot for a TACA viscount as I saw one there once.
You will find an Allegheny DC3 showing up with the Classic AI flight plans. I added a spot at the terminal so
it wouldn't feel alone out at the old municipal area.

INSTALLATION:
1. Download the khou_intapt1965.zip file to a temporary folder and extract all the files.
2. Place or copy the CONTENTS (not the folder itself) of the "PLACE contents of this folder in Add On Scenery_scenery folder"
into the FS2004/Addon Scenery/scenery folder. While you're there in Addon scenery/scenery, remove any previous AFCAD or
AFX files for KHOU (labelled AF2_KHOU or AFX_KHOU or similar).
3. Place or copy the entire folder "KHOU_Houston International Airport ca1965" into the FS2004/Addon Scenery folder.
4. Place or copy the entire folder "Static Objects Library_KHOU" into the FS2004/Addon scenery folder.
5. Turn on Flight Simulator 2004
6. At the main menu click on and open the SETTINGS button.
7. Under "Scenery" click on and open the "Scenery Library"
8. Click on "Add Area" then navigate to "Addon Scenery". Double click to open, select "Static Objects Library_KHOU" folder,
and click "OK" button
9. Repeat step 8, selecting "KHOU_Houston International Airport ca1965" and click OK.
10. At this point, the titles of both folders should appear in the "Area List" menu of Flight Simulator with a
red check mark in the "Enabled" column.
11. Use the "Move up" or "Move down" buttons to MAKE SURE the "Static Objects Libray_KHOU" folder is listed BELOW
the "KHOU_Houston International Airport ca1965" folder
12. Click "OK" button and exit /close Flight Simulator. The next time you fly, the airport should be in place.

SPECIAL NOTES:
1. Make sure any other AFCAD or AFX files for KHOU are removed or strange things will happen at the airport.
2. The AFCAD supplied includes ONLY the airlines of 1965. Southwest started just a few years later so if you want
your other jets to park at the terminal, add some parking spots or designators. If you can't find some planes,
look in front of the old municipal terminal.
3. You can turn off the airport by going to settings/scenery library and unchecking the enabled boxes. HOWEVER,
the AFCAD and exclude files removing old buildings will still be functional. They need to be removed maually
from the Addon scenery/ scenery folder.
4. ALWAYS make backup copies in separate folders of anything you remove or replace so you can restore your originals if you wish.
5. I have not changed the airport properties so radio for tower, ground etc will still be "Hobby".
