FS2004 Curtiss Wright CW-1 "Junior"
I love Put-Puts; my favorite ride is in my Aeronca C-3. However, I think the "Junior" might replace it. The CW-1 was Curtiss Wright's attempt to enter the light plane market in 1930. It's claim to fame was a price tag of only $1500. It was well liked by it's owners because it was very stable and easy to fly. It was even popular for coyote hunting in the west because of the great view from the front seat and its ability to fly low and slow. Over 400 were produced but the program fell victim to the depression of the '30;s. A google search will find a reasonable amount of information about this most unusual parasol wing pusher 3 cylinder engine aircraft.
I have Paul Matt's beautiful 3 views of this plane so I used them as backgrounds for this project. This project was created with FSDSv2.24 and produced directly into FS2004. It uses FS2004 flight dynamics files so it is not compatible with any other simulator. Many thanks to Steve Myers for letting me use the .air and .cfg file from his great Aeronca "K" as a starting point for the flight dynamics. It features moving parts, a slight specular color shine, pilot figure and a transparent windshield. A true Put Put sound file is included (see below).

INSTALLATION: Unzip CW1.zip into a temporary folder. Copy the folder Curtiss Junior into the Aircraft folder of FS2004. Open the gauges folder and copy the contents into the Gauges folder of FS2004. Close everything and fire up FS2004. This airplane will show as the CW-1 under Curtiss in the aircraft selection list.

PANEL: Paul Matts 3 view included a simple drawing of the panel which showed the gauge locations. I created a 2D panel based on that drawing. The original "Junior" had a speed gauge that consisted of a spring loaded vane on the front of the fuselage. It was attached to an indicator which showed stall, cruise and overspeed. I spent some time trying to model this gauge but gave up and put in a vintage ASI. The vintages gauges are by Phil Profili.

SOUND: This sound file has a long history which I will keep short. A couple of years ago I uploaded the FS2000 version of my Aeronca C-3. Michael Clarke of the UK liked it so much he sent me a sound file of a 2 cylinder engine recorded from his brother's motorcycle. Some time later I downloaded a .wave file recorded from the actual C-3 engine. I know zilch about sound files but a few months ago I combined Clarke's sound .cfg file and the aeronca wave file and viola! it worked. I used FS Sound Studio to convert it to the FS2004 format and to speed up the firing rate because the Junior has a 3 cylinder rather than a 2 cylinder engine. I have included this sound file which has a unique sound; if it doesn't meet your fancy please change it.

LEGAL: This project is released as freeware. You may modify it, repaint it, etc., upload to another website as long as it is not for profit. You need my written permission to use any of these files for commercial purposes; otherwise just give me credit for the original design. This airplane should not hurt your computer but I am not responsible if it causes problems.
