ANTS AUSSIE AIRPORTS VOL 8 : Bundaberg and Lady Elliot Island
scenery for Microsoft's Flight Simulator X

INTRODUCTION

This scenery includes 2 airports which are located in southern Queensland, Australia. The airports are Bundaberg and Lady Elliot Island. This scenery contains photoreal backgrounds and these are designed to blend in with the payware FTX textures (available from www.fullterrain.com). It is therefore recommended that you have the FTX textures installed if you wish to see these airfields at their best.

These airports feature custom 3D objects, photoreal ground textures as well as custom taxiway and runway markings.

Note: Many of these airports are available for FS9 as part of the VistaOZ freeware package which is available at www.vistaoz.org

Note: Each airport pack I make is a standalone pack. You do not need to have Ants Aussie Airports Vol 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 installed to use Vol 8. You can download and install any other volume later if you want.

REQUIREMENTS
- Microsoft's FSX is essential (this scenery is not compatible with FS9)
- ORBX's payware FTX textures are recommended (www.fullterrain.com).
- OZx freeware airports (www.aussiex.org) are recommended though not essential.

============
INSTALLATION
============

Note: If you have already installed any Ants Aussie Airports packs then Vol 8 will install into the same folder as these. This is to prevent your scenery library from filling up with individual entries for each Volume. You do not need to have any of my other volumes installed to use Volume 8 and you can install other volumes at a later date if you wish.

1. Double click on "InstallAAA8.exe" to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions and the scenery files will be extracted and installed into their correct locations.

2. All you need to do now is update your Scenery Library. Start FSX and select "SETTINGS". In the "Other settings" section on the right of the screen select "Scenery Library". If you have installed any "Ants Aussie Airports" pack before then you will have already added it to the scenery library and you should skip to step 4.

3. Select "Add Area" and navigate to the "Addon Scenery\Ants Aussie Airports" folder and select "OK".

4. Ensure the Scenery area "Ants Aussie Airports" is above the FTX entries and click "OK" (see below for a screenshot). Please note, if you have installed any of the ORBX products to always check your scenery library. I've found that the ORBX installers will mess with the order of your scenery library and will place the FTX files at the top of the list.

You are now ready to fly so select one of the airfields listed on the following pages.

============

To make installation easier I have used the Clickteam installer. I know alot of people (myself included) don't trust installers because you can never be quite sure what it will do to your FSX system. Too many numpties make installers that overwrite or edit default FSX files and thus end up ruining someone's FSX install.

Rest assured that the installer does not overwrite any default FSX files nor does it go messing about with your config files (which is why you still need to manually add "Ants Aussie Airports" to your scenery library) nor does it add things to the registry.

This installer will only install files into the following locations:
Addon Scenery\Ants Aussie Airports
Effects\AntsAussieAirports_RWYWhite.fx
Effects\AntsAussieAirports_RWYGreen.fx
Effects\AntsAussieAirports_RWYBlue.fx
Effects\AntsAussieAirports_YLTTLighthouse.fx
Effects\AntsAussieAirports_YLTTSurf.fx
Sound\AntsAussieAirports_YLTTSurf.wav

AIRPORTS INCLUDED

BUNDABERG, YBUD

Bundaberg is a small regional town in Queensland about 300km north of Brisbane. The area around Bundaberg is known for growing sugar cane and one of the most famous exports is Bundaberg Rum (note the advertising on the terminal).
The airport has a Royal Flying Doctor Service base and rescue helicopter as well as being the home of Jabiru aircraft manufacturing.

Bundaberg airport is currently having its runway extended to 2000 metres (the bulldozers are working as I type). I have therefore created Bundaberg as how it may appear when the runway is complete.

LADY ELLIOT ISLAND, YLLT

Lady Elliot Island is the southern most island in the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef extends along the coast of much of Queensland and is the world's largest coral reef system. Lady Elliot Island is a privately owned island and features a resort. Running down the middle of the island is the 600 metre (2000') runway. You will also find two lighthouses on the island. The newer, taller lighthouse was built as the trees on the island had grown so much that they were starting to block the light from the older lighthouse.

The easiest way to get to the island is via air from either Bundaberg or Hervey Bay. Seair operates daily flights to the island using Britten Norman Islanders, a Twin Otter and a Cessna Caravan. Visit the aussiex.org website where you can download repaints for the Aerosoft Twin Otter and default Caravan in Seair/Lady Elliot Air colours.

I have added an effect that adds the sound of waves and birds to Lady Elliot Island. If you don't like this sound effect you can remove it by deleting the file "Addon Scenery\Ants Aussie Airports\Scenery\aaa8_LadyElliotIs_OceanNoise.bgl".

THANK YOUS

Kris Robinson (www.agentk.net). A million thankyous to Kris as he supplied all the pictures for Bundaberg airport and without his efforts Bundaberg wouldn't look anywhere near as good as it does.

Lou Frost for his kind help beta testing.

Thanks to the people at VistaOZ.org and Aussiex.org and FSDeveloper.com for answering my silly questions.

Special thanks to all those who provide free FS addons.

Thank you for taking the time to read this manual and I hope you enjoy the scenery.
