This is a first attempt to enhance the standard scenery for Egypt.
Flying in that region with the standard scenery I was very disappointed
that instead of both dams on the Nile river near Asswan there was only
a rather stupid bridge ...
So I tried to remove this bridge and to put the old lower dam and the
new high dam in the correct place, together with the islands in the lake and near
Aswan, and I added the new bridge over the Nile north of Aswan.
But once started with that project I decided to correct the river from Aswan to Luxor too,
and at the same time to correct the landclasses of the Nile river valley. It looks
better now than in the original scenery, but still not perfect : with the existing
landclass textures it seems impossible to get a closer approximation to reality.
And I know, it would be necessary to correct the landclass values for a much larger
distance from the river valley into the desert, because in the original scenery
the desert is much too green, and the rock surface which is typical for much of
the eastern desert should come out better. Maybe I will do that in the future, but
again the existing textures are not very good for this purpose, although lc 98 and
99 are better than those in the original file.
Most of the design work for the river and for the landclasses was done with Ground2k4,
a great program for that purpose. Satellite photographs available on the net were imported as
background maps (after reprojection).
The dams and the bridge were designed in gmax.
The military airports at Daraw and Bir Abu Rahal, which in the MS scenery are only
runways, have been enhanced by adding taxiways (no buildings added, because I have
no photographs and thus could add only imaginary standard buildings). For the correct
placement of the taxiways small sections of satellite images were imported as background
maps into SceneGenX.

This scenery is freeware, do not try to make money with it.

This scenery is dedicated to the friendly people of Egypt, who made my stay in their country
always agreeable.

Installation:
You can use the folder information stored with the files. If you prefer a different file structure,
pay attention to store the two landclass files (LC***.bgl) in a subfolder that contains no texture subfolder.
