FS2004 Haystack Observatory Scenery
version 0.01 alpha - October 6, 2004

By Thomas Perry

-------------------------------------------

When flying Northwest of Boston along Rt 3 North and Route 2 West, one of the most noticeable landmarks in the area is the MIT/Lincoln Labs Haystack Observatory in Westford, MA (www.haystack.edu). These files contain a model of these structures as well as a basic model of the Tyngsboro Bridge over the Lawrence River along Rt 113.

The models I've made are very basic, but they serve the purpose for now. I will be upgrading this scenery as I find the time, but I thought I would make what I have available now. Let me know if you would have any models which would be useful for the scenery or you would like a copy of the source. I'd love to find better model for at least either the tracking antenna or the bridge, or any of the objects for that matter.

The API's I used with this scenery are:
astrohq1.zip - Robert Waszkiewicz
parabole.zip - Alain ROBERT
sat_ant.zip - Ino Terpstra

I have included their distribution files in entirety. For this scenery, I modified Ino Terpstra's Satellite Antenna API file for this scenery (removed the trees and cut the height in half)(Haystack Antenna 1.api). I have included the texture files from these API's that are needed by this scenery in the Texture directory, so you do not need to install them if you don't want to.

To develop it, I used SceneGenX Build 28 (buildings and new models), and Airport for Windows v 3.0 build 192 (API's, Roads, and polygons).

This scenery was developed with the following addons installed, USA Roads (Flight1.com), FSGenesis Terrain and Landclass (SurClaro.com and FSGenesis.net), and Jim Keir's scenery for the Maine coastline (Maine.zip, www.jimkeir.co.uk/FlightSim/scenery.html ), which includes improved water (lakes, rivers, etc.) for the area covered by this scenery.

This is the first scenery I have released for public consumption. Please let me know if you have any questions and/or what you think.

Thanks.
