Here is my third alternative replacement for the AutoGen vegetation
texture sheets that provide the trees in the FS2002 scenery (see
GTL_AGEN.ZIP and MSTREES.ZIP for the others). This one is a second
enhancement of the new set recently released by Microsoft as part of the
AutoGen SDK. The number and variety of the trees is increased and
undergrowth has been added to further increase the density of the tree
cover. A number of other details have been modified to improve the
overall appearance. Forests now have up to 3,500 trees per sq km,
compared with the scanty 600 of the original FS2002 release, and the
tropics look more realistically 'tropical' with lush green bush below
the palm fronds.

INSTALLATION
============

There are five BMP files, or 'texture sheets', (treessu, treessp,
treesfa, treeswi, treeshw) in the main FS2002\TEXTURE folder that are
used by AutoGen to display the trees. The five files in this archive
replace them.

Before installing the new versions, you should make a backup copy of the
previous files in another folder. (Advanced users may want to have a
whole series of such folders containing all the different replacement
sets now available, and perhaps use different sets when flying in
different parts of the world.)

Then copy the new files to the main FS2002\TEXTURE folder, overwriting
the previous copies.

The new files are 1024x1024 DXT1 extended format bitmaps. To ensure that
they are displayed correctly by the simulator, you should go to the
Options menu, select Settings, Display and make sure that the Texture
Size slider on the Aircraft tab sheet is set to maximum ('Massive').
This setting is necessary for correct display of 1024x1024 textures on
scenery objects as well as aircraft, and should always be selected by
users of high-quality scenery and aircraft add-ons, many of which now
use 1024x1024 textures.

NOTES
=====

1. Because the files are larger (1024x1024 versus 512x512) than the
original default textures, you may experience a slight slowing of
frame rates, although most users find it imperceptible. (But note
that there is NO slowing when compared with other 1024x1024
replacements, despite the increased density of the trees).

2. If you want to revert to the originals, or another set of
replacements that you have safely stored in a back-up folder,
simply copy them back into the FS2002\TEXTURE folder, overwriting
the new files.

3. To see the trees at their best when admiring visual scenery, set the
Autogen Density slider on Display Settings to its maximum of
'Extremely Dense'. But you may need a lower setting to increase frame
rates and give smoother control response when actually flying.

4. DXT1 extended format bitmaps cannot be viewed with a normal file
viewer utility or graphics image editors such as Photoshop or
Paintshop Pro. To preview the files, see the JPG screenshots
included in this archive, or use one of the excellent graphics
tools available from Martin Wright's web site at
